Principal's Note - Playworks

Playing is essential to learning and growing. When children can organize themselves into games with friends, they grow socially and emotionally, priming their brains for greater growth. On most days our students have at least two opportunities to play outside and we do our best to maximize that time spent playing. We partner with Playworks, an organization that helps structure recess so it is fun and engaging for ALL. Our Playworks coach, Coach Atoi, visits a few times a year to work with our AMAZING recess supervisors to make sure our recess experience has something for everyone and all kids have FUN! We have Junior Coaches (4th and 5th graders) who support younger grades and recently, we launched a new set of games for indoor recess. It's hard to believe we have been a Playworks school for less than a year...but our learners sure do know how to play!

Join us for a FREE YOGA session Friday, February 7th at 7:45AM. Just enter through Door #2 and join us in the gym. No experience needed. No special equipment needed. Just come in comfy clothes, ready to stretch and welcome the day together. All families are welcome!

Guidance Newsletter - February

Please take a look at the February Parent Newsletter; Spanish February Newsletter for our SDW guidance program. Students participate in a lesson with our district guidance counselor once a month and teachers lead additional lessons throughout the rest of the month.

Yearbook Group Photos

Mortenson Photography will be at Hillcrest the morning of Thursday, February 20th to take candid and group photos for the yearbook. Any student who has participated in a Hillcrest group, including scouts, will have their group photo taken for the yearbook. If you would like your child to wear anything specific for this photo (for example, scout uniform or spirit wear) please have them wear it to school this day.

If your child did not have a yearbook photo taken earlier in the school year, they will also have their photo taken this day so they can be in the yearbook.

Yearbook orders will be sent home sometime in March.

2nd and 3rd Grade Concert

This is a friendly reminder about our annual second and third grade concert which will be held on Wednesday, February 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the Hillcrest Gym. All are invited, whether or not you have a student at Hillcrest! The title of our concert is “February’s Stars!” The dress rehearsal will be earlier in the day at 9:00 a.m. Parents or relatives who are not able to attend the evening concert are welcome to attend the dress rehearsal. It is important that all second and third grade students attend the evening concert. You will not want to miss it! Please have your students dress up for the evening concert. They should report to their homeroom at 6:20 p.m. on the evening of February 12th.

More info is available HERE.

4th Grade Recorder Club

During the months of February and March, your fourth grade student will be learning to play the recorder. Recorders are provided at school. These classroom recorders are disinfected and thoroughly cleaned between uses. However, your student WILL NOT be able to take these recorders home. If you would like your child to own a recorder, you may purchase a recorder and you have several possibilities in making this purchase.
