COMMUNITY SERVICE TO COMMEMORATE THE LIFE AND WORK OF DR. KING: Part of the MLK celebration includes the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service! We are looking for students to volunteer for the following service projects! Last year over 40 students participated and with your help, we can make this event even bigger! We are planning two events, one off-campus on Saturday January 16th, and one on-campus on Friday, January 22nd.

On Saturday, 1/16 we will participating in the Rochester Wide "King for a Day" Service program. This will start with speakers, musical performances, and poetry slams in Rochester followed by service projects including an inter-generational (college students and seniors citizens) dialogue about Civil Rights: Our Past or Present and Our Future, and a community building activity with children at SWAN, the Southwest Area Neighborhood Association where Naz students will lead ice breakers and team building activities for Rochester Youth. These programs will run from 8a.m. to noon.

On Friday, 1/22 we will be hosting elementary and middle school students on Naz's campus for a presentation about the Civil Rights Movement, campus tours , and arts and crafts based on themes of the work of Dr. King. This project will run from 2:30p.m to 5p.m.

WE NEED STUDENT VOLUNTEERS TO SIGN UP NOW! GRAB YOUR FRIENDS AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO SERVE IN THE NAME OF LOVE, PEACE, JUSTICE, EQUALITY, KING!

The MLK Day of Service is a way to transform Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and teachings into community action that helps solve social problems. That service may meet a tangible need, or it may meet a need of the spirit.
