The Siegrist Star
Week of December 6 , 2021
Hello Siegrist Families,
We hosted a FIRST EVER Counselor Advisory meeting this past week. This was a chance to share information about the comprehensive counseling program at Siegrist, data, and to seek/discuss feedback. Our program is an integral part of our Siegrist School program and thus I would like to share with you all the ways our program supports ALL students. If you would like to view the presentation CLICK HERE. Advisory participants used a quality tool to provide feedback in the areas of concerns, questions, kudos and suggestions. Next step is to develop a student focus group to gather student input as well. One of the many ideas/outcomes of the meeting is that parents did not know all the ways their school counselor worked to support student and school success. Thus, I'll try to do a better job of letting you know more about what we are doing to support ALL students at Siegrist.
Did you know we are hosting a $25 Gift Card Drive to help some of our families with Christmas food and gas? If you'd like to participate and give the gift of helping others within our Siegrist family, please consider donating a $25 GC to McDonalds, Sonic, QT, Aldi or a place of your choice. Send it to the office where we have a present box wrapped and secured.
Wishing you and your family a happy, and healthy holiday season!
Lori Mann, Ed.D.

Kindness Holiday Lightbulb Project
We have a 3rd Grade Friendship Group that is encouraging everyone to show kindness this holiday season and to brighten up our hallways with Christmas bulbs. (paper bulbs that is). Students were asked to think of a kind act they have done, or will do, and draw or write about it on a Christmas bulb to brighten up our school with kindness.

WE WANT YOUR FEEDBACK: Please Complete the Parent Survey by December 3
The Platte County School District is conducting its annual parent survey to gather feedback on strengths of the district, as well as areas to consider for growth. Your input is important and will be considered when making future decisions.
The parent survey closes today, December 3. If you have more than one student, please be sure to answer those questions for each building. The survey should take approximately fifteen minutes to complete. Thank you in advance for your feedback!
Reminder to all parents...
There is NO charge for breakfast and lunch this school year due to a waiver from the United States Department of Agriculture. However, this program only provides students with one milk at breakfast and one milk at lunch if student receives a complete meal. All students are required to pay. $0.45 for any extra milk. The milk may be charged to your child's lunch account and the parent will be responsible for the total lunch account balance.
If students elect to bring a meal from home, milk is not FREE. Milk may be purchased at an ala carte price of $0.45 per carton.
Winter Weather Information
Clothing and Recess
Please make sure that your children come to school dressed for the weather – winter coats, hats, gloves when necessary. There will be no outdoor recess when the wind chill is at 20 degrees or below. During times of year that temperatures can be unpredictable, dressing in layers is preferable. Be sure to write your child's name on their outdoor clothing.
Cancellation/Notification
In the event of school cancellation, PCR-3 will get that information out as early as possible through automated phone calls and text messages, the District website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, the District Hotline (816-858-2752), and local media. If snow, ice, or extreme cold make conditions unsafe, we will cancel school. For the 2021-22 school year, PCR-3 will implement traditional inclement weather days (no school and no virtual learning), until we reach a threshold that would push the school year past Memorial Day.
Y Club
If we cancel school, our school-age child care programs generally will remain open for those families that are already signed up through YMCA (www.kansascityymca.org). School sites where child care is offered are consolidated so all children enrolled in the program at Compass, Siegrist, and Pathfinder will report to Pathfinder.
