School Reopening Update
As you know, last week the WCPSS Board of Education began discussions about reopening schools for in-person instruction. Governor Cooper also announced that elementary schools are permitted to open under Plan A. This week WCPSS Board of Education will continue discussing options for how students will return to school. There is a Board of Education Work Session scheduled for Wednesday, September 23 at 2:00. WCPSS could elect to reopen under Plan B or Plan A. School districts can be more restrictive if they deem this necessary for health and safety reasons. On Friday, the district emailed a parent survey in order to obtain feedback on school reopening. If you have not provided feedback, I've attached the link here. Feedback is due by tomorrow at 5pm.
Virtual Academy
Students enrolled in Virtual Academy for the fall semester will remain in Virtual Academy through December 22. If you signed up for Virtual Academy for the fall semester only, but your child is thriving with his/her teacher, you can apply to remain in Virtual Academy for the remainder of the year. We expect the district to open up a window to reapply in late October/early November. The more fall only students from Virtual Academy that apply for the full year, the greater the likelihood that your child will remain with their current Virtual Academy teacher.
Prior to our winter track out, Virtual Academy families can request a transition to in-person instruction, which will allow your child to attend in-person classes in January. Please note, that if you withdraw from Virtual Academy and transition your child to in-person instruction, your child's teacher will likely change. Families enrolled in Virtual Academy for the year, will remain in Virtual Academy for the year, unless they request to transition their child to in-person instruction at the end of the fall semester. Please note, we are still required to adhere to state class size limits. We will notify families if we reach a point where classes for in-person instruction are full because they have reached their class size limit. There could potentially be families that want to move from Virtual Academy but cannot if we have reached our class size limits.

Please see this letter regarding the iStation reading assessment. Students will take this assessment prior to track out. The letter includes links to videos and step by step instructions for navigating this online assessment. Your child's teacher will provide additional information about this assessment this week. Pleasant Union's Virtual DanceFit Program
As you know, last year PUE participated in the Fun Run. Due to COVID-19, we've adjusted our program. We will have a Virtual Dance Experience for students. On 10/21, we’ll kick off our Pleasant Union Virtual DanceFit program!
Our goal is to raise $20,000 for Social/Emotional Resources & Technology and to strengthen our school community. This year more than ever, we need additional funds to provide an excellent educational experience for all of our students. We completely understand if your family is not in a position to financially support the school right now. You can still be involved by simply SHARING about our fundraiser with friends and extended family online at funrun.com. Sharing IS supporting! All students will participate in the Pleasant Union dance event, regardless of financial participation. We will also be following our school safety guidelines to ensure a safe and fun experience for everyone.
We appreciate your support more than you know. More details to come as we get closer to kickoff!
