Physical Abuse to Children
Every year more than 3 million reports of child abuse in the United States, 28.3% of adults report being physically abused as a child. Children being physically abused means that a parent or caregiver causes injury, death, emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child. If someone was physically abused that could mean a number of different things can be happening to that child such as kicking, burning, biting, choking, throwing, shoving, whipping or any other ways that can cause injuries. Physical can end with bruises, blisters, burns, cuts, or scratches or even something more serious, broken bones, dislocated joints, or even sprains.
Bruising
A child being kicked, thrown down, shoved into something, or even getting whipped by their abuser can end with bruising.
Broken Bones, Dislocated Joints, and Sprains
A child being thrown hard enough, being choked, or if the abuser took a child and shook them hard enough can end with a broken neck, other broken bones, dislocated joints, even sprains.
Burns
Burns can be left on a child if the abuser took hot, solid objects to anywhere on the child's body.
W H Y do people physically abuse children? Most abusers struggle with drug and alcohol use, short temper which can be caused by many things, mental health issues, or problems in the family like being poor.
How do you know if a child is being physically abused?
If a child is wearing long sleeves out of season, showing fear or depression, constant nightmares, or showing fear towards adults.
