Summer Programs at Notre Dame:
Great Books Programs
Belmont Abby College
Students from around the country gather together with members of the faculty on the beautiful monastic campus of Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina to spend a week reading and discussing works by some of our wisest forebears—Plato, Aristotle, St. Augustine, Dante, Shakespeare, and others. July 16-23, $575 - all inclusive.
Saint John's College
Students, ages 15 to 18, may participate in this program modeled after St. John’s discussion-based, interdisciplinary method of teaching the great books. A hands-on introduction to college life, students hone their reading, critical thinking, and discussion skills in either Santa Fe or Annapolis. 1-week sessions, $1100.
Multiple Campus Program
Students, grades 6-12, experience college-level seminars, engage in lively discussion, and enjoy summer fun with other literary-minded students at such colleges as: Oxford, Amherst College, Stanford, Trinity College, Dublin, University of Chicago and Stanford Center at Peking University in Beijing. Prices and dates vary.
Sweanee Young Writers' Conference
The University of the South is just the place for your aspiring authors, poets, and playwrights. For 23 years now the Conference—ranked as one of the top five such programs in the country—has played host to young writers ready to polish and perfect their literary work. The 2017 summer session runs July 2–15 on the scenic mountaintop campus of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Participants are rising 10th, 11th, and 12th grade writers. Application review will begin on Feb. 27, 2017. Program Dates: 7/2-7/15. $2350. Scholarships available.
