Speeding to Read
Hughes Elementary students were excited to wear their bright t-shirts to the first awards assembly. The shirts are a great reminder that we are participating in the Speeding to Read program. 98% of the students at Hughes met the Speeding to Read Challenge for the first turn. Turn 2 is October 20th-December 12th. We are trying to get 100% of our students reading. Students will be recognized at the next awards assembly if they were able to meet their First Lap goal.
Principal's Award
The character education focus for the Principal's Award for the first six weeks was respect. The focus for the second six weeks is responsibility. We are talking daily about responsibility on the announcements and the classrooms.
Tumble Books
Tumble Books is another resource that helps your child with reading fluency. Please go to the website link at http://www.tumblebooklibrary.com/Default.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fportal.aspx The login is nisdtx and the password is books. There are a variety of books for your child to select from and the words are highlighted as the book is being read. This might be a fun way to read/listen to books while the family is driving to and from activities.
