Fifth Grade Parkside Elementary
October 13th - 20th, 2016
Math
This week in math we worked on finishing our place value unit by comparing, rounding and estimating with decimals. We did activities that showed the kids how to estimate in everyday places, such as the grocery store when shopping with a specific amount of money. Kids can practice their estimating skills at home by using the store sale papers to round and estimate totals. We finished out the unit with a test on Thursday. Look for the test and/or corrections early next week.
Next week in math we will begin our multiplication unit. We will begin multiplying two digit by two digit numbers using the standard algorithm. Please be sure your child is practicing their multiplication facts on a regular basis. They can make their own flash cards or purchase them. I bought several packs at the dollar store!
