1. Morning Mobility | Get Your Mojo Moving in the Morning
mo·bil·i·ty: the ability to move or be moved freely and easily.
After the kids get on the bus, it's our turn to hop on our own energy bus. Out of gas too many mornings? Here are some inspirational & practical tips:
- Get your morning flow up and flowing by making yourself move. We can create momentum by making ourselves move. What we get going tends to get going, so let's start our day off with a good move.
- As soon as your feet hit the floor after you wake, spend 2 minutes breathing deep and stretching.
- Plan a 10 minute walk before you head out the door. Walking the dog, go up and down the stairs, power walk your sidewalk, etc.
- Consume clean calories in the morning. Preferably a healthy carb, protein and fat together. The better is always in the balance. Keep your energy level high.
- Park a little further to get more steps in.
- Staying active and mobile as you age (growing wiser) is vitally important to promote long term health and stability.
- Perform 3 office exercises as soon as you get in. Your coffee won't get too cold. Examples could be 8-10 squats in front of your chair, dips using your desk, leg raises seated in your chair (pulling knees to chest), etc. Also, use the top 12 office stretches below (#8) as your guide 2-3 time per day.
- Moving in the morning will boost your metabolism to allow for more fat to burn while sitting at your desk. Counteract the chair potato!
- It will improve balance and coordination (less likely to trip & fall).
- Increase your range of motion and reduce the risk of injury.
- Invigorate you faster than an espresso shot.
A 2001 study in the Journal of Physiotherapy reported, "Twenty minutes of passive stretching lowers glucose levels in an at-risk population."
- Being able to move your body freely and easily will create additional freedoms of mobility in overall life.
At the office: yoga Tuesday's at 7:30am in the Coliseum and Thursday mornings @ 7:15 at the Lakehouse. If your speed is more "full throttle," try Power Train every M, W and F mornings beginning at 6:45am in the Coliseum. In addition, we offer two types of stretch therapy onsite. Please email us to find out more.
