Released 2016 STAAR and EOC tests

TEA has released the 2016 STAAR and EOC tests. If you teach one of the tested subjects, you might review the test and its key. Departments might also review the exam together in order to identify areas of vertical alignment of content and skills among the different courses.

One-Day Seminar: Civil Rights in America is offering a free one-day seminar in Austin on September 13, 2016 called Civil Rights in America.

"The Civil Rights Movement in America has endured a difficult and tumultuous path. The Emancipation Proclamation ended the institution of slavery. The Fourteenth Amendment should have guaranteed freedoms, equality and civil rights for all men, however it would take many generations of hardships and court cases for that reality to be achieved. This seminar addresses the complicated road endured by African Americans.

Discussion Leader: Dr. Peter Myers, Professor of Political Science, specializing in political philosophy and U.S. constitutional law, at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire."

If you are interested in attending, you can register online. I attended the weekend version of this seminar in Atlanta, GA August 5-7, and I strongly recommend it for all social studies teachers who are interested in this topic. It's limited to 20 teachers, so sign up today!

Social Studies will pay for up to 2 substitutes per campus for AISD teachers who attend this training.
