Warrior WAMPUM DRAWING!!!
We will be doing our Warrior WAMPUM drawing on our early release day starting at 2:00 in the Media Center!
We can't wait to celebrate all of your hard work and dedication you have to our TRIBE!
You get a prize... you get a prize.. you get a prize!!!!!!!!!!
Behavior Data Update
1. We are NOT showing this to state in any way that these referrals should not have been written.
2. When behaviors are MAJOR we REQUIRE referrals so we can ensure we are documenting and putting the right interventions in place.
3. Our overall tier one behavior has improved considerably, which is why students are being able to be identified so much quicker!
However- Please make sure the following steps are being provided for minor offences.
1. Students should receive minor infractions. Each minor infraction requires parent phone contact. This allows YOU to keep your power!
2. On the third infraction, inform the behavior intervention specialist so they can provide support- this does not require a call for assistance.
3. ONLY call for assistance when the situation is an emergency, so behavior interventionists can spend their time being pro-active rather than re-active.
4. 4th infraction would require a written detention by Behavior Specialist
5. Infraction beyond that would require an Office Discipline Referral- consult behavior specialist if you are unclear.
6. Students start fresh each quarter.
If the student is ESE and the behaviors are a manifestation of a disability- there may be interventions put in place in order to keep students safe and keep student from escalating based on their disability- Ex- Respite pass,
After you have written a minor infraction and once the student has de-escalated- THE MOST IMPORTANT part is to re-address the behavior as the teacher and do a re-teaching/ role play of your future expectations. Most minor infractions seem to be related to students inability to self-regulate and calm themselves. Showing the student how to use your safe space and how they can communicate with you when they are frustrated BEFORE acting impulsively is our goal. Safety first!
Finally, We are seeing more students getting referrals than students being removed from the POW WOW picnic. This doesn't seem to be making sense. Only students who have consistently followed the vibe ALL WEEK should be invited to attend. If a behavior tech was called to your class earlier in the week for the student, for example, they should definitely not be in attendance outside.
This is meant to be a behavior support for YOU.
SHOUT OUT!!!
Overall- WAY TO GO 5th GRADE!!! Your kiddos had the HIGHEST number of referrals last year, and the same group of kids NOW has the LOWEST number from grades 1st-5th! That's unbelievable!
Questions to consider...
Referrals written on ESE students are up significantly.
Last year we had 1 ESE referral written at this time.
This year we have 27 referrals written on ESE students.
What can we do proactively to calm students that are showing signs of aggression and frustration?
Our ESE teachers and Aides are pushing into classes from 8:40-9:00. Please have them run a group to re-teach expectations if you are having troubles with your students to support you.
Suspension Data
However, when talking through offences on re-entry, so many incidents could have been avoided.
What measures can be done to ensure students are using a safe space and self regulating?
How are we identifying students who are triggered and supporting them through the de-escalation process?
Check out our very own SLP, Ms. Erickson, tracking progress! Notice how students are tracking their mastery of the 's' sound, and Ms. Erickson is tracking it as well!

iReady
iReady will only be as effective as the quality of time our students are putting in. It is important that students are getting 45 minutes of active instruction a week AND hitting the sweet spot of 75% pass rate on their lessons. A great way to monitor this is through the "Class Response to Instruction" report.
Some congratulations go out to our AMAZING tribe for working diligently on iReady and passing lessons.
Kinder -- 16% of students meeting the 75% pass rate
First Grade --- 64% of students meeting the 75% pass rate
2nd Grade -- 86% of students meeting the 75% pass rate
62% of 3rd graders are hitting the iReady pass rate of 75% or greater.
48% of 4th graders are hitting the iReady pass rate of 75% or greater.
40% of 5th graders are hitting the iReady pass rate of 75% or greater.
If you're interested in student goal-setting and data tracking for iReady, I will be adding several forms in our Common Folder for you to use with your kiddos.
Our #VBEVIP is Vanessa Gonzalez! Enjoy your awesome parking spot, and keep making those nominations on Twitter!!

PD Information-
The next PD day is designated as a (Teacher Choice) Professional Learning Day. There are learning opportunities throughout the district that you may be interested in. Please visit the workshop registration site to see if there is a workshop that meets your needs. The link is provided below. Some school sites may be offering PD in an area they are focused on, and you could attend that workshop. Another option is to work with your team to collaboratively plan or to accomplish another task that will enhance student achievement. Remember, our district's focus this year is culture and climate, formative assessment, and standards based instruction.

ESE Certification Requirements FAQ-
Requirements for Renewal Applications Received On or After July 1, 2014
Twenty hours in teaching students with disabilities (SWD) must be earned during each renewal period to renew your certificate.
Frequently Asked Questions-
1. Does the requirement apply to all educators who hold valid professional certificates covering any
subject?
Yes. All educators who apply to renew a valid Florida professional certificate on or after July 1,
2014, must satisfy the requirement.
2. Does the requirement apply to all educators who are administrators and/or hold an ESE coverage
on their professional certificates?
Yes. All educators who apply to renew a valid Florida professional certificate on or after July 1,
2014, must satisfy the requirement.
3. Will educators who have degrees in ESE and/or ESE subject area coverage or endorsements on
their professional certificates be exempted from this requirement?
No. All educators who apply to renew a valid Florida professional certificate on or after July 1,
2014, must satisfy the requirement.
4. How many credits are required?
One (1) semester hour of college credit or 20 Florida inservice credits in teaching students with
disabilities is required. Inservice credits must be awarded by a school district.
5. Will courses or inservice credits in gifted education be acceptable?
No. Courses or inservice in an ESE area not classified as a disability, such as gifted education, are
not acceptable.
6. May I use credit from an ESE course I took as part of my degree to satisfy the requirement?
No. College courses taken to satisfy requirements for the initial Florida professional certificate
may not be used for renewal of the certificate. Renewal requirements must be completed during
the last validity period (last 5 years) of the certificate and prior to its expiration.
7. Will a passing score on an ESE subject area test satisfy the requirement?
Yes, a passing score on a Florida exceptional student subject area exam that corresponds with the
specific exceptional student education coverage on the certificate will meet the requirement if the
test is taken within the 5‐year validity period of the certificate.
8. Will any valid National Board certificate meet the requirement?
Yes, the Exceptional Needs Specialist certificate issued by the National Board of Professional
Teaching Standards (NBPTS) satisfies Florida Certificate renewal requirements and this new ESE
20‐hour inservice requirement, when the Florida professional certificate includes a subject
coverage in ESE. An NBPTS certificate without an Exceptional Needs Specialist area does not
satisfy the new renewal requirement.
