Staff Farmers Market
On November 17th, RCPS staff enjoyed shopping at the biannual Commit to Be Fit Staff Farmers Market. Thank you to all the participating farmers: Wholehearted Health Foods, Thornton River, Jenkins Fruit Stand, Piedmont Permaculture, Peak View Gardens, Gardens of Khmet, and Bean Hollow Grassfed.
Harvest of the Month Taste Test
On Monday, students at RCES had an opportunity to taste test a yummy coleslaw recipe that featured our Harvest of the Month, cabbage! Ms. Beling, Regional Farm to School Liaison, and Commit to Be Fit shared educational cabbage tidbits with the students before passing out the tasty slaw samples.

Family Walks
Have you heard the exciting news? The Rappahannock PTO recently unveiled the new walking path around the RCES soccer fields. This paved path is just over a quarter mile long! Plus, it's open to the community when school is not in session. This week's tip is to slip on your sneakers and go for a family walk. In a world filled with constant digital connectivity, a family walk is a wonderful opportunity to disconnect from technology and spend quality time together. Even better, try out the new walking path for a traffic-free, safer option.
Our Virtual Turkey Trot kicks off on Monday, November 21st! Sign-up TODAY and you will automatically be entered into our prize drawing! Plus, all participants, age 18 and older, will receive 3 Commit Club points. :)
All About Cabbage
Did you know cabbage is the oldest vegetable to be cultivated by humans? We've grown cabbage for over 6,000 years! Besides being very affordable, one cup of cabbage has 22 calories and 2 grams of fiber and provides 54% of the daily value of Vitamin C for an immune booster. Cabbage can be prepared in various ways, whether eaten raw in a salad, added to soup, or roasted in the oven. Refer to this week's recipe for a simple healthy coleslaw. Cabbage is typically harvested in December in Virginia. Shop and eat local to support your nearest farmer!
Simple Healthy Slaw
This week's recipe, from Cookie + Kate, was sampled by our RCES students during the Harvest of the Month taste testing.
Commit to Be Fit is a school sponsored, grant funded program in Rappahannock County, Virginia. Through the generosity of the PATH Foundation, Commit to Be Fit was created to promote a culture of wellness in Rappahannock County Public Schools and the Rappahannock community.
