PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Kia ora e te whānau,

The weekend of the Trail Ride I was lucky enough, along with our school community to experience the buzz of hundreds of trail bikes and their excited riders pushing the limits as they traversed some pretty rugged countryside. We are a very fortunate school to be able to hold such an event and this would not have been possible if it was not for the dedication of the Trail Ride Committee liaising between landowners, volunteers as well as completing a multitude of health and safety requirements. I was impressed how many volunteers turned up that did not have children currently attending our school. A testament to how highly anticipated this huge event is. Personally, it was an amazing initiation into ‘Trail Rides’.

Thank you to everyone that was involved.

Cross Country was held up in the domain this afternoon and the crowd support was wonderful. Your encouragement motivated our students to put in the extra effort required to complete the course. We had a few small changes to the course this year and it was good to be able to hold the entire event up in the Domain. What a brilliant location! Thank you to Ginny and Cath for devising new courses and working out the new set up. Our end chutes were kindly put up by Ben Ferguson.

Have a great fortnight and keep well.

Ngā mihi nui,

Megan

Trail Ride Sunday Celebration

We are having a Trail Ride Celebration Dinner this Sunday 29th May, 3pm onwards (Dinner at 5.30pm). The Galletlys are kindly supplying a sheep for the spit and our school families to provide potluck salads and desserts.

Room 1 to supply a salad/ side dish (Lettuce, Potato, Rice, Pasta etc)

Room 2 to bring a dessert

(If you have children in both classes please bring a salad/ side dish.)

Matariki

As part of our Matariki learning this term we have Kara from the Camping Ground coming in to show our students how to make a simple telescope.

For this to work we will require a number of cardboard tubes (paper towels/glad wrap inners).

Please keep your inners and send them along to school. We will remind you throughout the term.

Bits of hoses…

An odd request I know. We are hoping to use some hubcaps kindly provided by Nellie, to fashion some recycled flowers to go up on a fence. We will need hose lengths to use as the stems and leaves. If you discover that you have a leak in your garden hose, please send along the damaged bit of hose so that our students can fashion their floral creations!

Friday sessions with Serina

These are going well and I sat in on an interesting lesson about space junk last week. Room One students located a laptop that is currently floating out in space. It is amazing how we use technology! Not only in our classrooms to unlock new learning and discover interesting information, but to find out what happens to our ‘recycling/rubbish’. Ask your child how the laptop ended up floating up in Space?

Bus supervisor

Mels Humphrey has kindly taken on the role of supervising our bus students when we have our staff meetings. Please remember if you are picking up your child/ren to let a staff member know so that the bus list can be updated.
