This week in third-grade...
Students have completed the major work of third grade and classes have turned their attention towards a review of content and reflection on growth.
Multiplication Fact Fluency
As we begin to wrap up the instruction of new content, we will turn our attention to committing the remaining facts to memory. Students are taking timed fluency tests at their own pace and practicing memorization strategies in their classrooms. We will celebrate their growth with a movie day on Friday, May 31. If you are able to send in caffeine-free soda or sparkling water, popcorn, or traditional movie candies please contact your child's teacher.
We ask that you help support your child by helping them study and memorize their multiplication facts at home. Buying or making flash cards for each fact set can be helpful. Students can also practice skip counting(3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, etc.), identifying patterns, or play multiplication games with dominoes or a deck of cards.
End of Year Testing
Testing Dates
May 6-May 24- End of year mClass benchmark window. Students will read with a teacher to measure fluency and reading comprehension.
Wednesday, May 29- The reading EOG will be compared with the BOG scores to determine student growth as well as, current reading proficiency.
Thursday, May 30- The math EOG will measure student grasp of grade-level content.
Make-up EOG tests will begin the following week and will coincide with events like Field Day and the 3rd-grade end of year celebration. Students who have to make up EOG tests may not be able to participate in these events.
Claxton Showcase & Step Up Night
Third Grade End of Year Celebration and Playground Takeover
Third graders have worked incredibly hard this year and grown by leaps and bounds. We want to celebrate that hard work by taking over the playground on Thursday, June 6 from 1:30 to 2:30. The third-grade parent room representatives are helping to plan this celebration. Please see their message and sign-up sheet below.
We need volunteers to organize snacks and drinks, plan and run games & activities, play music, etc. Examples of activities include face painting, chalk drawing, cornhole, hula hooping, and more. Parents are more than welcome to send in items, volunteer to help set up or break down, or just come spend time with their student.
Please add your details to the following list and feel free to add more cells if necessary. Blue names are activities, red names are set up and clean-up and green names are food and drinks.
