Newsletter Week 5 Term 2
Shelly Park School - Wednesday 1st of June 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents and Whānau
We have had a busy few weeks starting with our Pod 1 and 2 students visiting the Auckland Zoo. This was a great experience for our youngest members of Shelly Park. I heard that a lot of the animals were out and about and the highlight was one of the big lionesses running up to the glass to check out a potential meal.
At the end of last week we had the founder of "Chip Packet Project NZ" come and talk to our senior students about how they can turn their empty chip packets in to blankets and pillows for those in need. The project has a goal of making 30,000 blankets this year. This will not only reduce the amount of waste that is going into our landfills, but will also help to give those in need a warm nights sleep.
Yesterday, our senior students entered the 'Netball Field Days'. This is a day for students to have a go at netball and play against other local schools. While the score didn't really matter, students were able to have fun with their friends and enjoy some exercise.
On Tuesday Pods 1, 2 and 3 also got to experience 'A Book Week Performance'. Two performers brought to life 3 books that our students have been reading at school. There was some great acting, singing and laughter which was enjoyed by all the students.
Lastly, we are delighted to announce that Kahlan Allen and Madeleine du Toit, both Year 6 students in 2021 have had their work published in the latest issue of Toitoi magazine.
Kahlan had a story 'Spaghetti the Gran' published and Madeleine has illustrated the poem 'Sentinel'
Congratulations to both students, we are really proud of you and were delighted to accept copies of Toitoi.

Yummy Stickers
Shelly Park has again registered to collect the Yummy Apple stickers. These stickers are converted into a winning share
of the $200,000 sports prize pool from DG Sport. All you have to do is purchase ‘Yummy’ branded apples, save the
stickers or cut out labels, place them on a sticker collection sheet and return them to your classroom teacher. The apples
can be purchased from New World, Pak n Save and participating Four Square stores.
The Yummy Apple Sticker Promotion officially runs for Terms 2 and 3, however if you have been collecting since last year,
these stickers still count too. If you need more Sticker Collection Sheets or Cut out label collection sheets they will be
available at the Office or with your classroom teacher. Please return all completed Collection sheets to your classroom
teacher or hold onto these sheets until the end of Term 3 for collection - we will let you know!
