Term 2 - Week 8, 23rd June 2022

Kia ora koutou,

The first ever public holiday in Aotearoa New Zealand, to celebrate Matariki is tomorrow, Friday 24th June. Today we have had a very special Matariki Day celebration at Te Kura o nga Raupareparenga filled with exciting activities and a delicious hangi for lunch.

This public holiday which marks the start of the Māori new year will be a time for:

  • Remembrance - Honouring those we have lost since the last rising of Matariki.

  • Celebrating the present - Gathering together to give thanks for what we have.

  • Looking forward to the future - Looking forward to the promise of a new year.

Along with many of you I am looking forward to having all of my family together for the first time since Christmas. The logistics of having children who are spread across the country does not allow this to happen very often.

Enjoy your time together this weekend as a family celebrating Matariki.

C8 and C9 in their knitted gifts from the Knitting for Cool Kids Rotorua Group

Thank you so much to the Rotorua Group ‘Knitting for Cool Kids’ for the beautifully knitted hats, scarves and mittens. They look absolutely gorgeous on our students in the junior school and the children just loved them. They were definitely well received as this week has been particularly cold.

Ear Health

Thank you to our Public Health Nurses who have screened 12 students to check their ear health. 6/12 students need further follow up. This requires an appointment at the Health Hub by the library.

Gastrointestinal Illness in our Community

We have had an increase in gastrointestinal illness in our communities, this has resulted in an increase of GP visits and a lot which can be managed at home.

I have attached a really good resource from www.healthnavigator.org.nz (free website for all) to help guide parents and caregivers.
