This Wonderful Time of Growth During Middle School

One of the reasons we love working with middle school kids so much is how much they grow and develop right before our eyes. I said to not less than five students this week the following: "Hi (insert student name), you seem like you have gotten taller!" Each one of the student's reactions was the same--a smile, a shrug, and a "yeah, I noticed that too."

Not only are the students growing physically, but they are also maturing socially, cognitively, and emotionally. Outside of the first years of life, these years in adolescence are the time in our lives when growth occurs the most. It is also during this time in your children's lives that they need you the most. Yes, they are becoming more independent in so many areas, but they still need your support and guidance as they navigate friendships, academics, and emotional reactions to new situations. Keep the lines of communication strong and when your child opens up to you, stay calm, listen carefully, and thank your child for sharing.

We are so glad that you are continuing to partner with us to support the development of each of our students (your children). Together, we are stronger and can learn from and support one another along this journey. Continue to reach out to us if you ever need anything or ever hear anything you think we should know.

Our kids are on paths to success and exciting to be a part of this with them.

THANK YOU!!! And Final Opportunity to Take the 5Essentials Parent Survey

Thank you for getting us over the 20% threshold on the 5Essentials Parent Survey! Currently, 22% of you have taken the survey for the middle school. We will utilize the feedback to make our school even better for students, staff, and parents. If you haven't had a chance to take it and still wish to, the survey closes on February 15. Use the link below:

Upcoming Parent Evening Presentations in the Area

The Principals at the Lyons Township middle schools meet regularly to collaborate and share ideas in an effort to best meet the needs of our students, parents, and staff. One of the items that we'd like to begin doing more frequently is to share parent presentations that each of us are hosting in an effort to provide a more diverse offering and more opportunities for parents to learn together about how best to support your children.

Tiger Tipline

While it is always best to talk directly to a staff member, we understand that sometimes this can be uncomfortable or difficult for students or parents. At Pleasantdale Middle School, we offer the Tiger Tipline as an anonymous tool for reporting unsafe, uncomfortable, or unkind behaviors and situations. We explicitly teach the students that if they ever see something or hear something that makes them feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or is unkind, either online or in person, they should tell a “trusted adult” which could be parents, school personnel, or other adults in their lives. The Tiger Tipline can be accessed here and we will post the link in Schoology and create a shortcut to the link on the student devices for easy access.

Dates for the Year

If you are like me, you want to know the dates for the year as far in advance as possible. As long as you understand that something may change due to unforeseen circumstances, I’d like to provide you access to the dates we’ve planned for the year (many of which are in the paper calendar you received in the mail). To access the middle school calendar dates, please click here.
