Principal's Pen
Dear Parents
Well Production is over! Despite COVID19 we managed to have our Production with an audience! We are all very proud of our very talented students. Thanks to the entire staff- teaching and support- for all their work on Production this year. They have made props and sorted costumes. A huge thanks to Penny for all her work with the Band and the singing. Thanks to everyone who helped transport gear to and from the Little Theatre.
End of term is fast approaching and this is our last full school newsletter. Next week there will a Xmas newsletter and you will all receive a hard copy of this newsletter. With the newsletter will be your child's stationery list for next year. This newsletter will come home on TUESDAY.
We welcomed Clare Lewis to school last Friday. Clare will be the new Kea teacher next year.
Congratulations to all the Year 7 students who put themselves forward to be School leaders next year. It was fantastic to see 10 of you put yourself forward. The decision was a hard one and our new leaders will be announced at the Prizegiving.
Congratulations to Atone Pereira and Nive Gaualofa on the recent safe arrival of their new daughter.
Thank you to everyone who has sent along donations for the Vinnies foodbank. They are very much appreciated.
End of Year Activities: Due to still being at Alert Level 2 in school until the end of the year parents will be unable to attend our End of Year Mass this Thursday. Our Prizegiving Liturgy and Farewell to our Year 8's will be next Tuesday 14th December at 1.30pm in the church. Only Year 8 parents are able to attend this Liturgy.
Picnic/ Fun Day: This Friday 10th December we will be having our Picnic/ Fun Day at school. We will be holding a whole school water fight and children may wear their togs for this event. They can also bring a water pistol/ or water gun. The water fight will finish before morning tea and everyone can then get changed into Non-uniform for the rest of the day. Students playing Touch at Hutt Park after school may come in sports uniform if they wish.
Sports: This weekend sees the end of the Touch and Future Ferns Netball seasons. A huge thanks is due to both Total Touch and Netball Hutt Valley who made it possible for the children to enjoy a season of sport. We also thank all our coaches and managers- Luigi Mollo, Kate Wright, Mel Manu, John & Brenda Ioane, Rachael Davidson, Lance Scurrah, Pena Fretton, Lucy Duncan, Claire Malaeulu, Marni Walters and Nadia Mauriohooho. Without your help Touch and Netball would not be possible.
School Library Books: Our school library is closed but we welcome any books that you may have at home being returned to school before we finish for the year.
School will finish at 12.30pm on Wednesday 15th December. Please make sure you have made arrangements for your children to be collected at this time. There will be an Assembly at 11am in the Hall on that day, after which children will return to their classrooms and be dismissed at 12.30pm.
Term 1 2022 begins on Wednesday 2nd February.

Our Special Character
First Communion: Congratulations to the 51 children who made their First Communion over the weekend of the 27/ 28 November. We were very proud of all of you and it was great to complete the programme despite the many trials and date changes this year. We celebrated at 3 Masses - 1 in Eastbourne and 2 in Petone. Thanks to everyone who supported the programme this year.
Yr 7 / 8 Retreat: Last Wednesday our Year 7 & 8 students had a class retreat at school led by Rachel and Matt from the the Young Marist Team. It was a very successful day and lots of great learning and sharing went on.

News from the Board...
The Board met for the last time this year on 24 November. Amongst the items on the agenda were the reports from our SENCO, Julia Havell, and our Reading Recovery Teacher, Kate Mooney.
We were very pleased to see the positive impact of these interventions for our students. Similarly, the end of year data shows, despite the disruption of lockdown, that our students are all making some or good progress in literacy and numeracy.
We have reviewed the Enrolment Scheme, the Protected Disclosures Policy and the Governance Manual. Updated copies of these can be found on the school website.
Planning for 2022 is underway, including an exciting upgrade for Tui classroom. Thanks so much to FOSH for all their fundraising efforts this year. With the money they have raised we are purchasing two TV screens, a teacher station for Tui class and instruments for the band.
2021 has been a challenging year with level changes and another lockdown. The Board is very grateful for the hard work and commitment of our staff and the support of our community. It will be great to end the year on a positive note with the school production.
Wishing you all a happy, safe Christmas, Sacred Heart Petone Board.
Celebrating our school
Congratulations to every single one of students for their part in the production. Both performances were amazing to watch and it was wonderful to share the perfomances with family and friends. Check out some of the photos below.
