SCHOOL NEWS
VACCINATION UPDATE
Our teachers will be receiving the second dose of the Covid vaccine during the next few weeks. The second shot seems to affect individuals differently, with some becoming ill for one or two days after receiving the vaccine. We wanted to inform you that teachers may be assigning asynchronous work as they recover. Teachers will communicate this with their students on an as needed basis. We appreciate your patience with our teachers as they prepare to come back for hybrid, in-person learning on March 3.
ACCESS TESTING FOR EL STUDENTS
This testing is for FWS English Learner (EL) students only and will take place in person at FWS on Monday, February 22. Students should bring a fully charged chromebook and charger. Parents of EL students will be notified of transportation details via email and phone call next week.
FLOW OF TRAFFIC:
If your student is a walker or a car rider, please follow the Kiss and Ride Map. Students will enter the B-8 entrance rather than the main entrance to the school. Please do not enter the bus parking lot to the right of the school. Walkers and car riders will not be allowed to enter the B-8 entrance until 8:15am.
The test is 8:30am to 11:30am.
Walkers will be dismissed at 11:30am.
Car Riders can be picked up at 11:45am.
Bus riders will be picked up at FWS at 12:30pm.
In case of inclement weather:
If there is a 2 hour delay on Feb. 22: The test is at FWS from 10:30am to 1:30pm. In this case, walkers will be dismissed at 1:30pm, car riders at 1:45pm, and buses will pick up students at 2:30pm.
If school is canceled on Feb. 22: The test is rescheduled to March 1 from 8:30am to 11:30am. In this case, walkers will be dismissed at 11:30am, car riders at 11:45am, and buses will pick up students at 12:30pm.
SOL WRITING TEST IN MARCH - 8th GRADERS
SOL TESTING IN MAY - 6th, 7th & 8th GRADERS
Virginia has mandated that the following SOL tests take place in-person at school on a designated day in May:
- 6th graders - math and reading SOL tests
- 7th graders - math and reading SOL tests
- 8th graders - science, math, and reading SOL tests
If you would like to opt your student out of taking the May SOL tests, please fill out the appropriate form below no later than February 26.
IMPORTANT DATES
February 16 - FWS has less than 15 students set to return to school as hybrid learners. Teachers of these students will be reaching out to parents with more details. If your student is a walker or a car rider, please follow the Kiss and Ride Procedures. Students will enter the B-8 entrance rather than the main entrance to the school. Please do not enter the bus parking lot to the right of the school. Walkers and car riders will not be allowed to enter the B-8 entrance until 8:15am.
February 22 - ACCESS testing for EL students only and will take place in person at FWS. See details above.
February 26 - Designated as an asynchronous learning day for students in Grades 6 - 12 so teachers can make final preparations to their classrooms for hybrid learning to begin.
March 1 - SOL writing testing for all 8th grade students (includes all Distance Learner and Hybrid students) and will take place in person at FWS. See details above. If you would like to have your student opt out of taking the test, please email Tonya Edwards.
March 2 - Note that this is a Student Holiday and Staff Professional Development Day.
March 3 - FWS has 315 students set to return to school as hybrid learners starting March 3. Students will return 2 days a week, either Tues/Wed or Thurs/Fri. LCPS SURVEY LINK SENT NEXT WEEK
- LCPS is partnering with BrightBytes, a data analytics organization, to provide insights into our new and changing learning environments. with a goal of ensuring equitable learning support for all students.
- Parents - You will receive an email with a survey link next week.
- This survey is Anonymous. LCPS appreciates the input from parents regarding your perspective of your child's classroom support and resources. Your answers will help LCPS understand students' needs and areas for improvement.
SAS NEWS
- The LCPS Office of Student Assistance Services (SAS) oversees Substance Use Prevention and Intervention among other services. Their mission is to promote student wellness and safety.

FALCON PALS CLUB
- This new club is for any 7th grader needing extra help with school work. Tutors will be their fellow 7th grade students who are proficient in their subject level knowledge.
- If your student is a 7th grader and could use some extra help with school work, please click HERE to fill out the sign up form by February 15.
- The club will be held virtually on Mondays from 12:30pm-1:00pm, starting February 22.
- Selected students and tutors will be contacted via email by February 16 with details on how to join the club's Schoology Group.

SPIRIT NIGHT IS TUESDAY
- Please consider dropping by Famous Toastery (43780 Central Station Dr., Ste. 150 in Ashburn) between 7am to 2pm for a tasty meal on Tuesday, February 16. Dine in or Carry out. Proceeds will be donated to FWS!

RISING GRADE INFORMATION
Click on the following link pertaining to your student for more Rising Grade information including video presentations, course selections and elective options, math curriculum information, and important dates. If you have questions, please contact your student's counselor.
Note that students have now chosen their electives for the next school year. You can view them in ParentVUE and make any changes from February 6 to 26.
LIBRARY CURBSIDE PICK UP
There is no Curbside Pick Up on Monday, February 15 since it is a holiday.
Curbside Pick Up:
Mondays 7:30am to 4:00pm
Wednesdays 8:30am to 3:30pm
Thursdays 8:30am to 3:30pm
In addition to books, students can also request our February maker kit which includes instructions and paper to make origami heart bookmarks. To request a book and/or maker kit, fill out this request form.
Library Books can be returned Monday - Friday to the Book Return bin outside the FWS front door.
FUN FRIDAY
- Our next Fun Friday is Bed Head Day on February 19.

FREE MEALS
WALK-UP SERVICE
- Meals can be picked up at FWS on Mondays through Fridays from 10:30am to 2:30pm at the B-3 entrance.
BUS STOP PICK-UP SERVICE
- Bus stop deliveries will be on Mondays only with all meals (breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner) for the week being delivered on Mondays. Families can find their nearest bus stop and delivery time by using the Interactive Map.
- Since Monday is a holiday, bus meals will be delivered on February 16.
CAMPUS PROGRAM FOR 8TH GRADERS
- The CAMPUS program is a high school college access program design to remove barriers and/or meet the specific needs of first generation college bound students attending LCPS. Students may apply in the spring of their 8th grade year.

LCPS SOFTBALL IS HERE!
- Registration for the Loudoun County Middle School Softball Program is now open. Tryouts will be held in February. Games are expected to begin after spring break and continue through Memorial Day. If interested, click HERE for more information.
THOMAS JEFFERSON HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2025
- If you are an 8th grader interested in attending the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJSST) next year, their application window is open from February 1 at 8:00am to February 26 at 4:00pm. More information about the application process can be found HERE.
