Hiawatha Elementary
Week of April 27th
Hello Husky Families-
I hope this newsletter finds you all healthy and well. We are continuing to work through many plans and details on answers to the many questions we all have regarding the pickup of students' belongings and the possibility of summer school, etc. As we continue to make plans across the district I will be sure to communicate all plans to you.
Thank you again for all you are doing to help your child at home with remote learning and keeping them engaged in their school work. Our attendance increased last week for students engaged in daily activities and Zoom calls and we appreciate all your doing to make this possible. I know this is a challenge for all of our families and we appreciate all you are doing to help keep your child’s learning ongoing even at home.
Here are a few tips to help you as you create a new learning routine at home….
Set a schedule for your child to follow.
Find a quiet place for your child to sit and work without distractions such as toys, tv, etc.
Have your child wear headphones to help them with outside noises and help them stay focused.
School work does not need to be completed during the normal school hours. It is okay if the evening time is better for you and your child to work on school work together.
Most importantly remain flexible! This is new for everyone and will take some time for everyone to fall into a good routine.
A few independent activities that all students can work on without any adult assistance include the following:
Reading/listening to a book on MyOn or Epic
IXL practice
eSpark/DreamBox
Lexia
Journal writing
Coloring and putting puzzles together are great activities as well.
As a parent and an educator I also feel the sadness and anxiety that this pandemic has caused all of us to experience. The unknown and the unanswered questions are difficult for us all. I just want to remind you that we are here to offer any support you and your family may need. Please don’t hesitate to email us for any assistance you may need. Remember we are all in this together and will come out of this situation stronger than ever.
We look forward to continuing to see your students on their Zoom calls, it truly warms our hearts to see them.
We miss you all! Stay well!

2019-2020 Yearbook
We are excited to be able to sell a yearbook this year to our students. The yearbook club was busy working on gathering pictures and designing the format before school was closed in March. The deadline to purchase is May 1st and the cost is $14. We will make arrangements for yearbook pick up once the order comes in. This was a unique school year to say the least and we know everyone would love to have this yearbook as a keepsake for years to come.

Our staff is continuing to upload resources and activities to our PowerLearning pages and providing e-learning resources for our students to continue to learn at home. Reminder you can find your student’s classroom teacher by going on our website and clicking under Staff Directory to find their name and link. Here is the video tutorial link again if you need any support.
