Leeward CC Automotive Newsletter!
October 22, 2015
Congratulations Leeward CC's Automotive Technology Program!
Leeward CC’s Automotive Technology program recently received its reaccreditation from the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). After successfully completed numerous phases of the review process by NATEF, our program was awarded Certificate of Accreditation in Master Automobile Service Technology - the highest level offered by NATEF.
Founded in 1983 as an independent, non-profit organization, the mission of NATEF is to improve the quality of automotive technician training programs nationwide at secondary and post-secondary, public and proprietary schools. To accomplish this mission, NATEF examines the structure, resources and quality of training programs and evaluates them against standards established by the industry. These standard reflect the skills that students must master to be successful in the industry. Accreditation of an automotive training program brings with it program credibility, recognition and overall program improvement.
Mr. Eric Pang, Automotive Professor and Program Coordinator shared “We can say that Leeward CC’s Automotive program is a great program, but obviously this would be a biased opinion. To earn credibility for our claim, we need an independent, nationally recognized organization to come in and critique our program. NATEF is credible, nationally recognized critic with ties to another credible national organization that certified technician, The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). Our program was awarded certification at the highest level – Master Automobile Service Technology. This stands as an independent proof that you have attended an automotive training program that has met their rigorous national standards at the highest level. ”
“The certification has great significance to the college because it demonstrates to their accrediting body, Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior College of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC) that our Automotive program has an independent/external review body critiquing all aspects of our program” added Mr. Pang.
An accreditation by NATEF signifies a program meeting the highest standards, and speaks to the quality of our program’s faculty, curriculum, and overall education. For employers, this ensures for a pool of highly trained entry-level technicians, whose education has been aligned with industry standards. For us, students at Leeward CC's Automotive Technology, this is a recognition that gives a huge value. It lets us know that our Automotive Technology program is a quality program where we can gain the necessary skills and knowledge to be competitive in the automotive job market. We should be proud and understand the significance of having attended a NATEF certified Automotive program.
Lastly, let's acknowledge and show our appreciation to all of faculty, staff, administrator, and others at Leeward CC and in our community who contributed to the success of achieving this recognition. Thank you for your hard work and all of the great things you do. Once again, congratulations Leeward CC's Automotive Technology program!
