Mrs. Millstein's Weekly Update!
April 18th - 22nd
Dear parents,
What a fun week we had in 3rd grade! The students got to show off the games they created at the Video Design Challenge and I am so impressed with what they created! Although we didn't get to go on our field trip Wednesday we had a blast participating in Ms. Robyn's summer camp scavenger hunt! Piper, Abby and Kara had the quickest time finding all the objects! We got to check out 4th grades STEAM Fair and the 3rd graders were excited to be part of the event next year! We received our seedlings just in time for Earth Day! The students go gently wrap them up and pass them out to the other grades. We would love to see your seedling planted at home! You can tag us on Twitter or Instagram (@cbawestchester for both) or send it directly to me!
Our Peace, Love and Poetry Picnic is coming up on May 4th from 10:30-12:00! It is a rain or shine event! We will be creating our tie dye t-shirts next week so we can be extra groovy! They will be set home with instructions on how to wash. Please have your child wear it on the day of the picnic! We still need a few items if you'd like to contribute please click the SignUp Genius below!
In reading we continued our Wild Robot novel study. The students completed a STEM challenge where they had to create and disguise Roz (the robot in the novel) based on the scenic background they got. In our small reading groups each group read a nonfiction story about either the Galapagos Island or Easter Island. With the information they learned from the books and research they did online they found out the weather, landforms, animals and plants that are indigenous to their island. To make their research come to life they used the app ARMaker and explained what their items were! Once their videos are completed they will be posted to Seesaw! We are rocking our poetry unit. This week we wrote a poem that had alliteration, a concrete poem, and a cinquain poem! Once our poetry unit is over their Pages Poetry Journal will be uploaded to Seesaw. In math we continued to learn about attributes of a shapes. In science the students were told to pack a bag, then learn that they have been stranded on a deserted island with only the items they have in their bag! Over the next few weeks their survival skills will be tested!
A reminder that standardized testing starts on Monday. The school day starts at 8:00 and we ask that you please arrive promptly. Healthy snacks will be given to the students but they can have their own snacks as well! If you'd like to contribute a fun treat for after the test as a reward for their hard work please send me an e-mail!
