#CelebrateMonday
August 21, 2018
As this is our first Monday of the year with students back in the district, that new year feeling hasn't yet worn off. We still have that excited, back-to-school feeling! Wouldn't it be nice if we could maintain that level of enthusiasm all year?
What if we made that one of our goals?
As we move into subsequent days and weeks of this school year, that shiny new year feeling will start to fade and we could easily slip into a feeling of the daily grind.
But wait! It doesn't have to be that way! We can be purveyors of energy and enthusiasm! After all, if it doesn't start with us, how will it start?
Often we may feel that in order to bring energy we have to some incredibly big, bold, and spectacular!
But often it is in the small, consistent things that we do that keep that positive momentum going day after day throughout the year.
George Couros, learner, educator, consultant, and author (Innovator's Mindset), shares three simple ways that we can bring energy into the work that we do.
It's so important to be able to laugh at ourselves. We are only human, and we do such a service for our staff and students when we engage in fun and humor when we are around them. Life is far too short to be serious all the time!
For the past few years we've had #CelebrateMonday messages focusing on gratitude - that is because it is so incredibly important and it leads to greater happiness!
Couros emphasizes the importance of appreciating others all the time. We all know how good it feels to be appreciated - even if we don't think we thrive on that kind of thing - it still feels good to have someone appreciate our work, effort, or time. Imagine the kind of energy that will be sparked just by taking a short amount of time.
We talked about posting our "whys" so they can be visible reminders of our purpose. When we continuously connect to our "why" we can draw energy from that purpose - and use it to energize those around us!
And don't stop there! Remember, this job of leadership is challenging and sometimes lonely. Don't be afraid to bring the energy for each other - when we do that for each other, we also benefit ourselves!
Have a wonderful first full week - and don't forget to make this the best Monday of the week!
Cheers!
