Invitation for Grade 11 Students
University of Ontario Institute of Technology
Enrichment Program - Week of June 25, 2018
The University of Ontario Institute of Technology invites Grade 11 students from MSA to a multi-day enrichment program during the week of June 25, 2018. The university can host a maximum of 20 students who will live and study on campus while taking part in multiple enrichment opportunities at our world class facilities.
In 2016 and 2017 the university hosted 4 such enrichment groups, three from Bermuda and one from Norway. Each of the groups were invited on campus to take part in enrichment activities that focused on science technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM). In particular, students practiced crime scene investigation at the forensic science crime scene house. They toured the world class climactic wind tunnel and did research on sail boat aerodynamics, and finally built autonomous robots with the engineering students. Students would be offered accommodation in the on-campus dormitories and would enjoy meals at the many cafeterias. Students would enjoy full access to the campus facilities, such as the award winning library, and world-class athletic facilities. Finally students will be immersed in an academic environment that will foster inquiry, innovation and imagination.
The university will fund the entire trip with the exception of airfare and any extracurricular activities that occur off campus. In 2016 both the groups from Norway and Bermuda decided to extend their trip to visit the city of Toronto on the weekend; the students funded this part of their trip independently.
If your student in Grade 11 would be interested in participating/applying for this learning experience, they must send their application letter, with reasons why they would be a good candidate to attend, to Mrs. Moench at smoench@msa.bm. Parents are asked to sign the letter of application to indicate their approval and support. The deadline for applying is Friday, December 15.
This educational trip will happen after exams are completed in June and will run for the entire last week of school. Two MSA teacher chaperones will be accompanying the students on this trip.
