100th Day of School

Believe it or not, Thursday, the 4th, will be the 100th day of school! We will be celebrating in 2nd grade with fun activities throughout the day. We would like to ask the kiddos to dress up as they think they will appear when they are 100 years old. Break out the walkers and canes, and draw on those wrinkles!

Box Tops Update

We have had a change in class rankings this week.

5th - Mrs. Onstead (2nd grade) with 662

4th - Mrs. Wilburn (1st grade) with 749

3rd - Mrs. Wilson (2nd grade) with 798

2nd - Ms. Schmidt (2nd grade) with 878

1st - Mrs. Frazier (4th grade) with 886

We have dropped into 2nd place. Please keep collecting those Box Tops! The winning class gets a pizza party at the end of the school year.

Valentine's Party

To prepare for our party, please work with your child to create their Valentine mailbox. Be sure to add their name somewhere visible, so we can tell whose is whose.

Also, when addressing the valentines, simply label them to "friend". The kiddos will still be delivering them, but they will be able to deliver them more efficiently instead of matching each card to each box.

Thank you for pitching in and visiting to see what supplies we will be needing. We would like them to arrive before the 10th, so we can make any last minute trips to the grocery store.

Parents are welcome to attend too! It is February 12th from 12:20-1:30. Please let me know if you have any questions.

PTA Yearbook

For a limited time, yearbooks are on sale for $25. Order now and yearbooks will be delivered in May. They are only being sold online. Go to and type in our school name. Purchase a yearbook on-line using a credit or debit card. Ads may be created and purchased on the website for 5th grade students only. Questions? Contact Crystal Pride

Kroger Community Card

During the first semester, we earned over $300.00 and we only had 63 households connected to L.A. Nelson. Do you have your Kroger card connected to Nelson? If so, we will see this on the bottom of your receipt.

Please take time to register your card and tell your spouses and grandparents.

L.A. Nelson school code is 90039.

Spelling City

Don't forget to check out for a fun way for kiddos to practice their spelling words! It offers a subscription or there are certain games you can play for free (that's our choice). I enter the class list each week, each word shares a pattern.

Six Flags Read to Succeed

Earlier in the year, I sent home some yellow Six Flags Read to Succeed Forms.

1) It is for recreational reading (above and beyond required 20 daily minutes for school).

2) Parents must initial each entry for reading and sign the bottom upon completion.

3) The total must equal up to 360 minutes (6 hours).

4) Each student that participates gets one Six Flags ticket.

The completed form must be turned in by Friday, February 24th. All students are eligible. If you need a new form, please let me know!
