Book-O-Ween Parade on Friday
This Friday is Book-O-Ween. On Friday as part of our Red Ribbon Week, we are encouraging students to dress up as a character from a book. Please do not stress too much about this. As you know, there is a book about everything and anything. If there is a show about it, there is likely a book about it. If you already have a costume from Halloween, try to relate it to a book your child is familiar with.
Parents are invited to come for the parade which will be held at 9:35AM and then for afternoon Kindergarten students only at 1:30 PM.
There are a few guidelines regarding costumes:
- Please do not wear costumes that may scare others
- Please do not include weapons with your costume
Come wearing your costume to school on Friday. Please be sure that students have their regular clothing on underneath or with them and comfortable shoes to wear for the rest of their day.
No face paint that covers their entire face. If they need a little black nose or whiskers or something, that's fine, but not a full painted face.

Trash or Treasure
Did you know that Americans spent a record $36.9 billion on candy in 2021—more than 600 pounds of that candy is purchased just for Halloween. We all love celebrating with something sweet! However, the vast majority of candy wrappers end up in landfills due to an inability by most curbside recycling programs to recycle them. That’s where Trash or Treasure comes in.
Start saving those Halloween candy wrappers, and beginning Monday October 30th thru Thanksgiving Break, Sycamore Creek Elementary will participate in the 1st Trash or Treasure, so that you don’t have to trash those candy wrappers and doom them to an eternity in a landfill—or, even worse, in our oceans. Simply enjoy the candy, save those wrappers and then stop by the candy wrapper trash and simply drop your wrappers in as you pass the media center.
