Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
October 8th-12th
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Science: This week in science we will review Lessons 1-3 on the Atmosphere, Water Cycle, and Clouds. Students will apply what they have learned to a Science Court case in class. There will be a quiz over Lessons 1-3 on Tuesday 9th. On Wednesday, we will start Lesson 4 which is over fronts and weather patterns.
- Ms. Uhlenhake/Mrs. Thurston's Math and ELA:We are going to continue establishing a reading life and thinking deeply about characters in the books we are reading. We will also continue reading “The Tiger Rising” as a whole class. We are will focus on character change while reading a few mentor texts. Ms. U's class: Reading Responses are due Friday. Mrs. Thurston's class: Spelling tests are Friday 19th. In writing, we will pause our Realistic Fiction stories and start Spooky Stories for the month of October. In math, we will be continuing our Multiplication unit. We will focus this week on factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers. Please make sure that your child is studying his/her math facts every night. A great resource to use at home is Reflex or IXL. The students have their logins inside of their agendas.
- Ms. Harris' GT Math and ELA: This week in reading we will be working on our novel "The Westing Game." The students are super excited to solve this mystery together. We are analyzing character traits and writer's craft while collecting clues in our "Detective folders". In writing, we will draft and begin revising our spooky stories for the month of October. This week is also spelling test week. Each group will take their spelling test and turn in their 3 assignments on their designated day. New words will be given out next week. In math we are continuing our unit on multiplication. Students took their first timed test today and EVERYONE PASSED! :) There will be another timed test on Thursday. Students are encouraged to study their facts each night, either using the symbaloo link below, reflex, flash cards, or ixl.com. Students will also take a quiz over factors and multiples and single digit multiplication/division on Friday 12th.

All Inclusive Playground
FMES is hosting a Cash for Caps fundraiser to benefit the All Play Together playground. The All Play Together playground is an all inclusive playground designed to serve all students, including those with various disabilities. You can reference their website: www.allplaytogether.com
Starting next week, kids can donate $1 or more, and those who donate will be able to wear a hat on Friday, October 19. We’ll collect their donations for the next two weeks.
