ALOHA Class of 2020
5th Grade at Mathews Elementary, Plano, Texas
ALOHA
Many people have asked, "What have you learned about teaching OR life from this remote learning experience?" There are so many things! One that rings true whether we are in a physical building learning together or whether we are separated into our own homes......relationships matter! The teacher to student, student to student, and of course teacher to parent relationship all matter. These relationships make a difference by forming an understanding from the very beginning that we all want the same thing - what is best for each and every child. These relationships help promote a warm, nurturing learning environment for all our students. We are thankful that we were able to build these relationships from the beginning of the school year. Now we are using those same relationships 'long-distance' to continue to provide love, support, encouragement, accountability, and learning for each and every child. Thank you so very much for your support and trust.
Another lesson learned is that people (including young people) have an innate desire for human interaction. We hear that from our students almost every day. We've also learned that young people especially thrive when they have a schedule - otherwise they have a hard time determining what is the most important thing to concentrate on at the moment. Distractions are many, and a schedule helps minimize those distractions. We've learned we all need someone to help hold us accountable and to prop us 'up' when we need it.
Thank you for continuing your support at home as we enter into these last 4 weeks of the school year. These weeks will be critical in helping your child remain engaged with learning now and in the future, remain connected with their teachers and peers, and grow ever stronger as we all manage day to day. Thank you for being such a valuable part of this 'village.'
Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help your child navigate and thrive during these last 4 weeks. We are always here to help!
Sincerely,
The Fifth Grade Team
