A message from the Principal

Kia ora tatou, Mālō e lele, Ann yeong haseyo, Ni hao, Dzień dobry

A very warm welcome back to term 4 to all of our students and whānau. We have 3 new students starting their journey at Pinehill School with us this week and another 5 new students over the next few weeks. We will welcome all our new students to Pinehill School this term and their families with a whakatau in week 4 on Monday 7th November at 9:00am in the hall. Everyone is welcome to join us.

We have had a fantastic start to the new term and the children have come back motivated, engaged and ready for an exciting final school term ahead.

This term we have many exciting events ahead and we will continue to update you with dates and further information closer to the time of these events.

A snapshot of events coming up include…

  • Year 4-6 School athletics on the 9th November.

  • Year 0-3 School athletics - on the 29th November

  • In week 5 (14th -18th November) we have the Life Education Caravan on the school site with timetabled sessions with all our classes in the school.

  • We also have an exciting end of year event, a Christmas Concert and picnic taking place under the Taumaru and school field area on Wednesday 30th November at 5:00pm. Our children are learning a Christmas themed song this term which will be performed on the night with all the classes in each team. We are all very excited about this event and the opportunity to come together as a Pinehill School family towards the end of what has been a fabulous, onsite year.

A few Term 4 reminders:

Well done to those children who have already worn their hat outside to start the school term. All New Zealand schools are required to ensure that hats are worn in summer months. Term 4 is one of our summer terms, requiring that our students wear a hat when they are outside at break and play times. This will be monitored by school staff. If a hat is not worn outside, children are directed to play in the shade areas only. Children may wear a hat of their choice or purchase a school hat from our uniform providers Janbells Ltd, Shop 7, 408 Beach Road, Mairangi Bay. Please name your child's hat, and all clothing.

8:50am Start

Pinehill School uses an electronic roll that has approval from the Ministry of Education. The roll is taken twice daily at 8:50am and 1:30pm. It is important for you to ensure that your child is at school promptly by 8:50am. Many important notices are also shared at this time. Children arriving at school before 8:15am must be registered to attend PKC, before school care. Arriving by 8:40am will allow your child to get ready for learning, greet their teacher and mix with their peers, ensuring a positive stress free start to the day.

If your child is going to be absent, please notify the school office through the SchoolApp, phone 094780301 or email us at You can also fill in and submit a form under the ‘contact us’ tab on our school website with your child’s name, room number, absence date/dates and reason.

If your child is not in class at 8:50am when the bell rings, either you or your child must sign in on the tablet at the office and collect a slip to present to the classroom teacher. If you receive a text to say that your child is not in class please reply to the text or call the office.

I hope your child/children have had a great start to Term 4.

Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini

Success is not the work of one but the work of many.

Ngā mihi nui,

Carla Veldman, Principal

Resilience Project

During the last week of term 3, Georgie from The Resilience Project shared information with Pinehill parents over zoom. This was such a worthwhile presentation.

She covered:

- why schools need programmes such as The Resilience project

- what the 4 pillars of The Resilience Project are and why they are important

- what some of the in-school resources look like

- some of our Pinehill data related to sleep and device use between the hours of 10pm and 6am

- some simple activities Pinehill whanau can do at home to support the messages tamariki are hearing and discussing at school

- some challenges for Piinehill parents

The presentation was recorded and the link is below:

Introducing The Resilience Project for Pinehill Parents & Carers

This link is live until midday Friday 28 October. We strongly recommend that parents watch this presentation. It is both informative, inspiring and challenging. Supporting our tamariki as they journey through life is a team effort, and it is important that we are all supporting each other as part of their support team.

Below is the link to the Parent and Carer Hub mentioned in the presentation too.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to watch this 30 minute presentation.

Our TRP class sharing this week comes from Room 6. The focus was on being grateful in the present moment. At any moment of our day, how positive and uplifting it is to reflect on what we are grateful for right here, right now. Thanks for sharing, Room 6.
