OUR ONE WORD

Each year, each staff member at North Middle chooses a word to guide their year. Enjoy the pictures of our ONE WORDS scattered throughout this newsletter. We encourage all of our students to also choose a word that describes a goal, a quality they need to remember, or a wish they have for this school year!

IS YOUR SCHOOLOGY OR CLEVER NOT WORKING?

This summer, the WV Department of Education updated their computer system called WVEIS 2.0. This system is used by every county in WV to schedule students, keep track of attendance, report discipline and more. There are still a few glitches the state is working out so some students may not be able to login to Schoology or Clever, or they may have a class or teacher missing from these systems. The state assures us that they are working on these issues and we will keep you informed when these programs are running smoothly again. Thank you for your patience!

WELCOME BACK FROM OUR SOCIAL WORKER, MS. KOCIK!

Welcome Back, North Middle School Families!

My name is Colleen Kocik, and I’m the school social worker for North Middle School. I want to share a bit about myself and my role as a school social worker at North Middle School.

I’m a proud mother of four children, two of whom have graduated high school. I have one daughter who attends high school and another daughter who is in her last year of elementary school. I recognize that being a parent is not easy, and there is so much time and energy we dedicate to our children, accompanied by feelings of guilt when we can’t dedicate more because we are working to provide for them. I spent most of my children’s life as a single parent who struggled to find balance. I don’t have all the answers for balancing work, family, and self-care. But what I am certain of is that our experiences, struggles, and lives are unique to us, just like our children.

With that said, my role is to support you and your child in school and at home. If you observe your child struggling with attending school, managing time, focusing, remaining organized, choosing questionable friendships, struggling with a loss such as a close loved one to death, divorce, abandonment, deployment, or other circumstances, I can provide them with tools to assist with their success.

If you are struggling in the home with getting your child to attend school, complete assigned homework, or follow your rules, I can provide you with tips and tools that can alleviate some of the stress that comes with parenting.

The best way to reach me is through email. If you prefer calling, I am at North Middle School on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and every other Friday. If you call outside of those days, I will return your call when I return.

Thank you for the opportunity to support you and your child during their time here at North Middle School.
