Superintendent's Update
November 13, 2020
CCPS Community,
Earlier this week, I put out a joint statement with Cecil County Health Officer, Lauren Levy, in which we shared that both of our organizations closely follow Cecil County's COVID-19 data and that we agreed that moving to 50% this week was the appropriate path forward. While I have been a strong advocate for bringing our students back, the safety of our students and staff remains the most important factor. We will continue to very closely monitor Cecil County's data.
During this week's Board of Education, we took time to recognize the veterans in our school system from each branch of the military. We owe so much to these individuals who have served our country and protected our American freedoms. Thank you to all veterans, past and present.
Next week marks American Education Week, a celebration of public education. This was recognized during this week's Board of Education meeting and the resolution included this: "Schools are community linchpins, bringing together adults and children, educators and volunteers, business leaders and elected officials in a common enterprise." Now more than ever, each member of our county public education team is serving a critical role to ensure that our students are supported. What we are doing today in education is not something that any of us would have predicted just a year ago. So as we celebrate American Education Week next week, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every member of our CCPS family.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Lawson, Ed.D.

Community Partner of the Month: PNC Bank
PNC is a longtime supporter of our schools. They are a committed school business partner for Holly Hall Elementary School, a sponsor of countywide educational enrichment programs, and a highly-involved member of the Business & Education Partnership Advisory Council. Not only are they generous financial contributors, their employees are also active volunteers in our buildings.
In response to the challenges brought about by the closure of schools due to the pandemic, PNC reached out to us to see what they could do to help, particularly in terms of our technology needs. As a result of these discussions, PNC awarded a $25,000 grant to CCPS to support our project to install external antennas on school buildings to extend WiFi connection for anyone needing to access the internet. This grant financed the installation of these antennas at 10 school buildings.
We are grateful for the generosity, support, and partnership of PNC Bank. Representing PNC Bank was Chick Hamm, Executive Vice President and Market Leader, and Vanessa Brown, Vice President.
