Sylvia's Place & Chaucie's Place - Parent Information Night

For Who: Parents with Children in Grades K-6

When: Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 6:00-7:00 PM

Where: Zionsville Educational Services Center

Sylvia’s Place has partnered with Chaucie’s Place to provide body safety programming for your children. Think First and Stay Safe™ is being presented in Zionsville Community Schools due to the generous funding from the Community Foundation of Boone County.

Think First and Stay Safe™ is a comprehensive body safety education program that teaches children in grades K-12 ways to keep their bodies safe. Students will learn appropriate ways to prevent, respond to, and report situations such as bullying, cyber-bullying, and all forms of abuse or neglect. These issues will be addressed at an age-appropriate level by trained Chaucie's Place presenters. Topics addressed will be as follows:

  • Think First and Stay Safe: Using our Built-in Computer—our Brain
  • My Body Belongs to Me
  • Trust your Gut
  • Laws Help Protect Me
  • Telling a Trusted Adult
  • All Secrets Can be Told
  • Everyone Deserves to Be Treated with Kindness and Respect
  • I am Special and Deserve Respect

Please join us for our upcoming Parent Night where you can learn more about these programs. Chaucie's Place staff will be available to answer questions. Information about the content of these programs will be provided, as well as tools to continue these important conversations at home and what to do if your child discloses abuse to you. These programs are designed to be the beginning of ongoing conversations empowering children and youth to keep themselves safe. Please join us to learn more!

Please Join Us for ZEF/SGE Family Book Club Night!

On behalf of ZEF and SGE, we would like to invite ALL families to participate in our first FAMILY BOOK CLUB NIGHT . . . Wednesday, November 14th from 6:00-7:00 PM!

  • Thanks to the generous donation of Duke Energy, we have received hundreds of copies of four books all authored by acclaimed author, Eve Bunting
  • Our objective is to have as many families participate by selecting one book per family to read together over a week's timeframe.
  • Once your family has had time to read it together and discuss the book (discussion questions will be provided for you), your family will come to SGE on Wed. 11/14 from 6:00-7:00 PM.
  • At SGE, your family will be paired up with other families and a staff member to lead a "book club discussion."
  • Each "book club" will be located in different parts of our building.

  • If your family would like to participate, please click the link below to choose one of the four books.
  • You can select a book even if you CANNOT participate in the evening of Wed. 11/14.
  • While we strongly recommend one book per family, if you'd like to select two books due to the difference in age of your children, feel free.
  • However, during the evening of our book club night, please ensure that if your children separate due to different books, please ensure there is an adult to accompany each child.

We value partnerships with our families and welcome parents and guardians to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities.

Examples include:

  • Field Trip Chaperones
  • Out of Town/Overnight Chaperones
  • Tutors
  • Volunteer Coaches
  • Classroom Helpers (PTO parties/room parents)
  • Library Helpers
  • After Prom Workers
  • Field Day/Jog-A-Thon Volunteers
  • Book Fair Sales/Athletic Ticket Sales

During the school day, all volunteers are expected to sign in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee* for the full background check which will expire after 5 years. The link to apply for the full background check can be accessed on the Volunteers/BRAVO link on the ZCS main webpage. For more information, contact the Volunteer/BRAVO Coordinator.

During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government-issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.

Examples Include:

  • Lunch Guests
  • Classroom Guest Speakers
  • Classroom Special Events (Grandparent Day/Famous Hoosiers/etc.)
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences

We ask that all visitors schedule an appointment to meet with teachers, counselors, administrators and all other staff members so that we may best serve everyone. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.

*ZCS thanks all volunteers for the generous support of our youth and schools. Thank you, too, for supporting the assurance of student and staff safety by completing and paying for a volunteer background check.

Did You Know?

ZCS, like other public schools, has a no-idling policy for vehicles on campus. The purpose of the policy is to limit vehicle emissions that might be brought into the schools and adversely impact the health of our students and staff. If you are stopped on campus for more than 5 minutes, please remember to turn off your engine. We thank you for abiding by this policy to help reduce the exposure to these emissions.
