Irons Jr. High Newsletter
We Are Hawks!
10/28/22
Irons Family,
We had another great week at Irons Jr. High. Our teachers continue to do an excellent job planning engaging lessons that meet the required curriculum along with tiering the lesson to fill in learning gaps and extension activities for our students who have mastered the lesson. Things are moving quickly as we enter the last six weeks of this semester. Please check PAC often to monitor your student's academic progress.
Instruction Begins at 8:50 AM:
Please remember that instruction begins at 8:50 AM. I know that traffic can be heavy on 45 and 242, so please help your child by leaving a few minutes earlier to plan for the increase in traffic. Your child needs to arrive on campus in plenty of time to get some breakfast, walk to their class, talk to their teacher, and then prepare to start a day of learning.
Students must be in their class prepared for instruction when the bell rings at 8:50 AM.
Halloween:
Here's a scary statistic, children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year. Lack of visibility because of low lighting at night also plays a factor in these incidents.
Keep these tips in mind when your children are out on Halloween night:
- A responsible adult should accompany young children on the neighborhood rounds
- If your older children are going alone, plan and review a route acceptable to you
- Agree on a specific time children should return home
- Teach your children never to enter a stranger's home or car
- Instruct children to travel only in familiar, well-lit areas and stick with their friends
- Tell your children not to eat any treats until they return home, and take care to avoid any food allergies
- Children and adults are reminded to put electronic devices down, keep their heads up and walk, don't run across the street
*This is just a reminder that Halloween Costumes and face paint are not allowed at school Monday, 10/31*
Parents will be asked to bring school appropriate clothes to wear if a student is in a costume.
Student Holiday:
Tuesday, November 8th, Election Day, will be a student Holiday. Please take the time to exercise your right to vote.
Building Safety:
According to the order issued by Governor Abbott on June 1, 2022, the Texas School Safety Center, in coordination with Texas Education Agency, is given authority to conduct in-person, unannounced, random intruder detection audits on school districts. The order specifies that TxSSC designated staff and/or inspectors should approach campuses to find weak points and how quickly they can penetrate buildings without being stopped. Irons Jr. High was inspected on 10/10/22, and the Inspector could not gain access to our school through an exterior door. The Inspector also checked interior doors and could not access any interior classrooms. Irons received a report of no findings, which is the highest level we can achieve as a campus. Irons will continue to conduct weekly door audits and train our students and staff in our emergency procedures.
Interim Assessments:
Starting November 9th, your child will be taking their reading and math interims. The purpose of giving interims is to allow us to monitor, predict and identify student needs. Please see below for more information regarding the interims. It is very important that your child be present on their specific testing days.
Teachers use interim data as a tool to:
- identify students in need of additional support
- predict student performance on the STAAR Test
- evaluate program effectiveness over time
- This is NOT a “normal” test.
- The test will get more difficult if your child is doing well.
There will be things that your child has not studied this school year.
Your child is not expected to know how to do everything on the test.

Extra Curricular Events:
We are excited that our Athletic events are in full swing. Admission is two dollars for adults and one dollar for students. You can help our gate worker by having exact change or small bills. Students may attend with a parent if the parent is staying for the entire game.
Students must purchase pre-purchase tickets on the game day during all lunches. To buy a ticket, students must be passing all classes, have not received any discipline referrals, and have only been tardy to class five or fewer times.
Car Rider Line:
Parents, we need your help at dismissal in the car rider line. Please do not allow or encourage your child/children to cross over to the parking lot to pick up your student. Please pull forward to the pick-up zone where your child/children are waiting for you to ensure a safe pick-up process for all students. Thank you so much for your continued support.
**For the safety of all students please do not pick up students in the bus drive.**
After School Pick up:
All students should be picked up from Irons by 5:00 unless they are attending an approved after school activity. We do not have supervision for students after this time. Thank you for looking out for your child's safety.
Student Attendance Matters:
Average daily attendance affects our funding, our campus rating, and mostly your student's academic progress. Our goal is 97%, our current campus average attendance as of today is 95.2%. Please encourage and ensure your student attends school daily.
