Welcome Back!
Tomorrow is the FIRST Day of School for the 22-23 School Year! We are so excited to welcome all of our returning and new families to Tomball Junior High! We are thrilled to partner with you this year through academics, sports, fine arts & many other avenues!
Please read this weekly newsletter in its entirety as it has important information to start the week off smoothly and to keep you informed throughout the year.
First Day FAQS:
- Can I walk my student into the building?
Unfortunately, no. Due to time, parking and safety constraints, please say goodbye at the bus stop or in the car.
- Where do I go when I get to school?
All students report to the cafeteria in the morning each day.
- Do I need my schedule from schedule pick up on the first day?
No, students will be handed a brand new schedule on the first day on a specific color paper that staff will be looking for to know it is the most up to date schedule.
Drop Off/Dismissal Info
The school opens each morning at 6:45 AM and we dismiss all students promptly at 2:30 PM.
Drop Off/Dismissal Procedures
Bus Riders:
If your student will be a bus rider, please see an email from transportation sent back in July regarding bus procedures for your student. You can also visit the TISD Transportation site for more information. Please download the Parent Portal to track your students.
Car Riders:
Morning Drop off follows the same procedure as pick up. Students will enter through the second door which opens at 6:45 AM.
Car riders will be dismissed at the 2:30 bell together. See Diagram below for instructions regarding car rider line.
Buses will exit through the front staff lot to go to the High School quickly. So it is imperative that you do not pick up students in the front.
Cell Phone Policy
Students are allowed to bring their cell phone to campus. Students are only permitted to use their phones/earbuds/electronic devices before school, during lunch and after school. This includes the use of apple watches for any non-watch function.
TJHS is a 1:1 campus and any activity that requires a device in class, Teachers will rely on our district technology to support learning in the classroom.
If a student has his/her device out at time that is not listed above, the device can be taken up by any staff member at TJHS.
Schedule Change?
Students will have until Friday, Aug 19th to make schedule changes. Please contact your student's counselor to make a change.
**Note: Not all changes are guaranteed due to class availability, scheduling conflicts, etc.**
Dress Code
Highlights of the Dress Code that all students should be aware of include but are not limited to:
- All students must wear clothing that adequately covers the body. Shorts and/or skirts must reach the mid-thigh. Spaghetti straps, strapless, backless, see-through and low-cut tops are not allowed. Tops must cover the midriff.
- All male students must be clean-shaven and may not display any piercings including the ear. Hair cannot extend past the bottom of a dress collar or T-shirt neckline.
- Students are not allowed to wear hats, bandanas, or other head coverings. Please leave your hats at home.
- No Pajamas. Leggings are the equivalent of tights. Your shirt should be adequately long enough.
- Hair should be clean and neatly groomed. It should not cover the eyes or be colored (including partial coloring or tips) or styled in any way that is distracting to the learning environment (i.e. unnatural hair colors such as but not limited to pink, purple, blue, green including highlights and tips). If your hair has unnatural colors in it, please take care of this before Tuesday.
If the principal determines that a student’s grooming or clothing violates the school’s dress code, the student will be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school and return to the classroom. If the problem cannot be corrected at school, the student may be assigned to in-school suspension for the remainder of the day, until the problem is corrected, or until a parent or designee brings an acceptable change of clothing to the school. A student who wears a hat or unacceptable jewelry will be asked to correct this violation of the dress code. A student who continues to violate this part of the dress code will surrender the item to an administrator. These items may be kept by the administrator for a period of time to be determined by the administrator, including until the end of day or the end of the year or until the parent comes to the school to retrieve the item.
The TISD dress code may be viewed in its' entirety in the Student Handbook on pages 51 & 52.
Teacher Communication is MOVING!
Teachers will no longer be required to create an individual website for publishing. Instead teachers will create a “Parent Communication” folder in each of their Schoology courses. All teachers will place this folder at the top of their Course Materials, title it “Parent Communication” and select an orange folder icon. Parents will be able to view this folder and its contents through the “Student Activity view”.
