"Daniel's Story" takes place in Europe during the 1940's, as Nazis rush to exterminate Jews and any other groups they feel are unworthy to live.

Vocabulary
Kristallnacht: The night of Broken Glass when synagogues, Jewish owned businesses, and schools were vandalized, looted, and burned.
Gestapo: The contraction of the German words for "secret state police". Nazi political police that were organized in 1933.

Daniel's camera was very important to him because it is how he documented the way Jews were treated during the Holocaust. In addition, the developed pictures allowed him to hold on to happier memories from the past.
Radio
The radio was important to Daniel and his family because it was a symbol of defiance and resistance.
Ration Cards
Though unfortunate, ration cards were important because that was the only way families could obtain food up until they were deported to work camps.
