Ethiopia
A place to travel
The Basics of Ethiopia
First of all, Ethiopia is located in Africa. To be more specific it is located between the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea, it is also land-locked. The climate of Ethiopia really depends where in the country you are. The climate ranges from being snowy on the mountain tops or mountainous regions to nice mild temps in the central plateau all the way to triple digits in the Danakil area.
Fitting in wit the Ethiopian People
First thing is language, the majority of people will speak English, but it might not be very well spoken in the rural areas. If they do not speak English they might be able to speak French, otherwise they will only speak their native language which will be one of 80 spoken languages. In Ethiopia some thing they do in their everyday lives would be in more rural areas and some parts of urbanized areas, all marriages are pre-arranged and there is no input of the two that are supposed to be married. When they do get married however, the bride and groom family's have to prepare all of the food, there will be no caterers. The families live together in the male's family house which can have up to four or five generation at one time. So the children of the family will have to take care of their parents and grandparents. Then to greet each other, or others you must give multiple kisses on each cheek. Finally if someone you know dies, you must morn in your house for three days. Ethiopians will also look down upon eating any type of pork, sorry no bacon here. Then if you were to go there just do not trust the police because they have been know to side with the criminals for half of their loot, therefore the justice system is not the best, but surprisingly there is not a lot of crime there at all.
Digging Deeper into the Ethiopian's Culture
There are central urban areas and there are a lot of rural areas that are not so urbanized. Most of the little villages, or towns would like to change to be more like the urbanized world, but they also do not want to over complicate things. The rural areas also tend to be a singular tribe that has their own language, and even though there is a majority 'power' that is one tribe, most of the tribes still do not want to conform to be like any other tribe, basically being very traditional and not letting in any other sources of language or ideas. Now as a country all together, they have heavy gender roles such as the men have to go out and work hard to earn money and get food to provide for this family, but he is not allowed to take care of his children or his house physically, if he does, then everyone will look down on him. The women are supposed to stay in the house and take care of the children at all times of the day. She is not even allowed to socialize or have friends. They also make the young men more educated than the young women.
