Hopes and Dreams

I couldn't resist sharing this artifact as I saw students in Mrs. St. Jean's class working on hand portraits and learning about some of the symbolism of hands in art and history. My daughter, Chloe, made this "hopes and dreams" hand print at the end of third grade. She is now a freshman in high school and it turns out many of her hopes and dreams did come true that next year. She made science projects and new friends!

Having hopes and dreams and setting goals is a powerful mindset. Look for an upcoming celebration of "Hopes and Dreams" at Pleasant Street School.

We invite you to take part in celebrating Family Literacy for the month of November!

We want to issue a challenge to children and families in our school community to take time to promote and to celebrate family literacy for the month of November 2014.

How many of minutes can Pleasant Street children read for the month of November?

How many minutes can our students' families read with and apart from their children?

How many reading museum projects will we celebrate over this next month?

How many families will take trips to the library?

How many new books or gently used books will children welcome into their homes?

How many minutes will the families of our emerging readers spend time using letter flashcards and/or sight word flashcards to strengthen their child's skills?

Look for the family literacy challenge form to be sent home tomorrow or you can print it from the link below. We will recognize all participants in the family literacy challenge at all school meeting on December 12th. All participants will also be entered into random drawing where we will select one grand prize winner who will receive a $100 Walmart gift card and 4 runner up winners who will receive one of 4- $25 Walmart gift cards.

Reading Museum Projects - All School Reading Celebrations!

More entries into our all school "Reading Museum." Please help us celebrate family literacy throughout the month of November.

To submit an entry into the museum, children just need to use their imagination and celebrate something he or she found interesting about a particular book, author, or series that they want to share with others. This could include posters, crafts, book reports, dioramas, and more! Submitted projects will be photographed and shared in our newsletter throughout the month of November.

Entry slips are linked below and also available at the school.

Thank you for your support of our PTO walkathon fundraiser benefit!

We had beautiful weather on Wednesday, Nov. 5th for our all school walkathon. Special thank you to Lori Fortin from our PTO who helped through out the morning.

We are so pleased that our PTO voted to support charitable giving to someone significant in our Pleasant Street School community who is courageously battling cancer.
