The Principal's Post
Vol. 2, Issue 9 - June 2020
PGE- Preparation, Goodwill, & Excellence
The Principal’s Post runs once a month with weekly updates included in the grade level newsletters. Below are the newest dates, resources, and happenings.
During the summer, I will continue to post updates at the first Monday of every month. If a subject matter necessitates communicating something more urgently, I will send an email with the naming convention used during our online studies: "PGE - subject matter - date". Please rest and reconnect with your loved ones - we had a very busy last nine weeks and our mind and spirit are in need of some care. - M. Formby
End of Year, Summertime, and Next Year
Ending 2019-2020 - While our end of year ceremonies, traditions, and learning were interrupted by growing health concerns surrounding COVID-19, the staff and I want to thank our parents for the excellent work and partnership throughout this time. Sincere thanks to all of you.
Summertime - During the summer months KISD will continue to monitor information from the Texas Education Agency and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ensure we are preparing for our projected school opening in August.
Next Year -At this time, our 2019-2020 calendar has not been modified and we plan to open on August 19, 2020. As the summer progresses, if there is a change in guidance from the county or state, KISD will make the appropriate adjustments and communications will be shared through social media, the KISD website, and communications like our PGE Principal's Post. I know it can be unsettling, but please know, we are working to support you and your children with every bit of information available.
KISD Instructional Survey
Helping us plan - If you have not participated in the online survey, please help us plan for various scenarios. Through this planning, we want to include input from our families and staff to gauge their level of comfort with various options.
Please keep in mind that as we get updates from local officials, plans will likely adjust; and anything that differs from our traditional instruction (i.e. full-time, online instruction) will require the approval of the Texas Education Agency.

Academic, Emotional, and Physical Supports
How You Can Help
- Please remember that brain research shows that, with the right strategy, enough effort, and growth mindset shows one can make academic gains and decrease stress. Please watch this video for more information: MINDSET by Carol Dweck | Animated Core Message
- Several effective websites are linked to this newsletter. You will need to sign up for free versions in some cases, but when we return in the fall (or if some processes are expedited) a registered version will be deployed. Children that feel prepared and are prepared have lower levels of stress - try reading and some active academic game from the ones listed for 30- 60 minutes every day. This will help tremendously!
