Tēnā koutou katoa
Ngā mihi nui, kia koutou katoa - Warm greetings to you all.
We are pleased to announce that CBK Tauranga, a family-friendly restaurant located at 20 Spring Street, has become a proud sponsor of Tauranga Primary School. CBK is supporting our sports teams with player of the day vouchers.
At CBK Tauranga, they offer a wide variety of mouth-watering dishes to suit all tastes and preferences. They are especially famous for their skillet cookie and Stonegrill, which are sure to leave you satisfied and craving for more. They also offer a range of healthy options for those who are health-conscious such as salads and Stonegrills or some sharing options from their Street Food menu.
We are grateful to CBK Tauranga for their generous sponsorship and for their commitment to supporting local schools. We encourage all of our students, parents, and staff to visit CBK Tauranga and experience their exceptional food and service. They are the perfect place to go for a family dinner or a night out with friends. With their warm and welcoming atmosphere, you are sure to feel right at home.
Congratulations to Gurseerat, who was the winner of the Travel Safe helmet design competition for the Y1-2 category. There were over 900 entries from schools in Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty. See her winning design below.
Developing the skills and strategies to create positive friendships, as well as, knowing how to be a good friend to others are important areas of learning for all of our students. Developing positive social skills can be challenging learning for some, however, these challenges are a normal part of growing up. In a school environment social skill development is critical; with 430 students on the school site, our children must learn and apply all of their strategies to navigate the varied amount of social situations they will experience daily. Children will make mistakes, and from time to time they will say or do unkind things, as they try to work out how to be a good friend and manage hurt feelings. It is important that we recognise that when situations occur at school, it is children responding to children, they are still learning and growing, and they do not have the life experience and wisdom of an adult yet. When we encounter an issue at school, our approach is to first try to find out what exactly has happened (as best we can, it is not always straightforward or easy) and then we work through a process of repairing any damaged relationships, coaching children how to make better choices, providing additional support if required, as well as, applying appropriate consequences for actions when necessary. During this time, the partnership between home and school is very important, as we both work hard to coach our TPS children to develop the skills and strategies to be respectful, resilient and caring people. If you have any concerns about your child please do talk with their teacher; we are a team and by working in partnership we can make a positive difference.
Over the next few weeks, we are talking to the students about being an Upstander (particularly in the middle and senior school). An Upstander is someone who notices unkind behaviour and uses words and/or actions to help someone who is being bullied or having a tough time. This is different from being a bystander – someone who notices unkind behaviour but does not or cannot help.
Towards the end of May, our school wide focus will be centred on an anti-bullying programme called “Kia Kaha”. We deliver this programme in association with the NZ Police. Kia Kaha consists of a comprehensive range of anti-bullying resources to help children and young people learn and apply a range of safe practices that they can use to build and maintain successful relationships throughout their lives.
Nau mai haere mai to Henil Patel and Jacob Audie who started schooling at TPS recently. Great to have you join our school community.
Ngā mihi maioha

With winter colds starting it would be nice if you are able to bring in a box or two of tissues for the classroom. This would be gratefully appreciated.

Mobile Phone Recycling Campaign
It would be great if you could rummage around in your draws and toy boxes and bring into school any unwanted mobile phones. Phones collected are recycled and our school gains valuable reward points which goes towards purchasing sports equipment whilst at the same time benefiting the environment by keeping our landfills free of mobile phones and their array of hazardous toxic substances which don't break down.
Don't forget to pass the word onto your family, friends and co-workers and let them know that if they are planning on updating their phone then they can drop their old phone off at school to be safely recycled.
