Hello Parents and Students!

We are back to our normal homework menu...HOWEVER, students MUST choose one math activity and one writing...if you do more you can earn extra credit Dixon Dollars! I will be checking h.w. on Fridays as I used to.

  • Thurs 2/11: President's Day and Valentine's Day Activities (students bring in valentine's if desired- see below)
  • Thurs. 2/11: A.R. Cutoff- work on those A.R. points, scholars!

Report Cards, Goal Setting, and Reading/A.R.

My students showed their hard work, perseverance, and dedication to their learning when they ROCKED the many assessments they took the past two weeks. These assessments were for the end of the Semester and included District Post Assessments as well as District Year Long Assessments (fluency, 2 step word problems, add/sub strategies, etc). PARENTS: Please look out for these being sent home on Monday and make sure to file away in binders. WAY TO GO SCHOLARS!! I look forward to getting back to our normal schedule of learning this week :)

Meanwhile, I am working on report cards and they will be going out next week. Although we don't have parent-teacher-student goal setting like November, I will be having goal setting conferences with each scholar to plan goals for the rest of the year. Please look out for that to sign within the next two weeks.

Reading/A.R.: A CLASS goal is to work harder on reading and taking A.R. quizzes. This is a school-wide program and it's really beneficial for students to practice this online assessment and to check their comprehension. Scholars, reading for 20 minutes a night is NOT OPTIONAL and is very important h.w...I challenge you to focus on this and taking A.R. tests much more frequently. Keep up the reading!

Friendship Day- (Valentine's Activities) Next Thursday

We will be having a small celebration for Valentine's Day (Friendship Day) next Thursday 2/11. If students would like to make friendship notes (valentines), they MUST make one for every scholar. I encourage you to "fill their buckets" like we do with our class Bucket Slips.

Welcome Mrs. Rowland...Planet Dixon's Teacher Candidate (student teacher)

We are very excited to welcome Mrs. Rowland into our classroom for the next 16 weeks! The first 8 weeks she will be here on Thursdays, the following 8 weeks she is all ours! I look forward to the opportunity to mentor her and have her teach my amazing scholars! She will be writing an introduction letter to you, but for now, check out this adorable collaborative slide share as students got to know her.

Are your Class Dojo notifications on? Please make sure they are!

I am VERY excited about the new feature in Class Story (Class Dojo) that allows you to comment!! It just keeps getting better! If you haven't connected on class dojo or don't check it often, PLEASE make sure you do...it's such a great way to connect to our class.

We also are using Class Dojo more for classroom management so please check in with your scholar if you see negative dojo points. Remember, these are reminders only...do not be concerned unless you see a pattern or many negative dojos.

Preparing for a goodbye to our Chromebooks- BYOD/ devices welcomed :)

Just a forewarning that beginning in March and through May, we have to say goodbye to our chromebooks since they will be used for SEES testing. We will definitely welcome any and all student devices and get creative so we don't lose the technology activities we are so used to ;)
