PTA Citizenship Writing Program Entries Now Open
Indian Hills PTA is proud to sponsor, support and encourage our students to write an essay or poem on the selected theme for the Citizenship Writing Program. This theme changes every year and encourages students to think about Citizenship in a broad sense.
The 2022-2023 Citizenship theme is "Future Me Hopes To Be."
If your student is interested in submitting an essay or poem, please view the Official Rules, complete the Entry Form, and have entries turned in to the front office prior to December 9, 2022.
Please contact Alyson Carr with any questions.

From Our Nurse's Office
Happy Thanksgiving!!
I (Nurse Radtke) hope everyone has a nice, restful break.
Illness, Tis the season:
Please take note of body aches, fatigue, sore throats and coughs.
If a student is positive for the flu, they will be required to stay home for five days to minimize the spread. Help protect your students by encouraging decent bedtimes, adequate hydration and good nutrition. As always, wash hands frequently and stay home if you are not well.
For illness in general, students must be vomit and fever free without the aid of fever-reducing medicines for 24 hours. If they have been diagnosed with strep, they must be on antibiotics for at least 24 hours before returning to school.
Texting Students:
As a reminder, If your student texts you to come home and has not been seen by the nurse, it is not automatically excused. Please remind your student to visit the nurse’s office if they are not feeling well.
Hearing Screening:
Hearing screening has been rescheduled for the week of December 5-11! All seventh grade and new eighth grade students will be screened. You will be notified if your student has any hearing issues and needs further evaluation. Please notify the nurse if you would like to OPT OUT of hearing screening.
Changes of Clothing:
Please have your student bring a change of clothing. They should have plenty of room in their locker to keep backups. Accidents happen and unfortunately, the nurse’s office does not have stock to pass out clothing.

Holiday Assistance and Giving Opportunities at IHMS
Holiday greetings IHMS families!
We join you in looking forward to a season that represents joy and peace for our community. We also want to recognize that this season can be stressful as there are additional demands on our time and finances. Here at Indian Hills, we maintain a strong tradition of helping those that are in need.
First, we at Indian Hills, would like to extend an offer of help if your family needs assistance with purchasing gifts or groceries. Please reply to this email and we will work to alleviate a portion of the financial stress out of your holiday. The only people that will know the names of families or any specifics will be our student services and administrative teams. We will hold this information in the strictest confidence.
Second, Johnson County Christmas Bureau is offering assistance through their annual HolidayShop that runs December 2nd-10th. The JCCB Holiday Shop is available by appointment only to shop for food and gifts. Please apply online at https://jccb.org/apply2022. If you need help applying, please call them at 913-341-4342.
Finally, if you are not in need, but would like to donate directly to IHMS families in need, our PTA has set up an easy online giving option: https://indianhillspta.membershiptoolkit.com/form/m/215413
You can also donate by cash or check by contacting our school bookkeeper, Veronica Rodriguez, at veronicarodriguez@smsd.org.
Sincerely,
Mr. Laird
Mrs. Mahoney
Mrs. Nelson
Mrs. Oliver
Mr. Revelle
