Shepard News & Notes
September 1, 2017
Hello Shepard Families:
Many members of our school community have asked how we can support those impacted by Hurricane Harvey. We have partnered with Fred Roberts Middle School in Houston, and I am in close contact with their principal. Sadly, many Fred Roberts families have lost everything. Right now they are assessing their greatest needs and will communicate how we can best help them get back to some sense of normal. Our Student Council and Philanthropy Club will be working with me to support efforts to help Fred Roberts families when we have more information on their needs. I will certainly keep you posted as well.
Warm Regards,
JohnTeacherEase Update
Yesterday, you should have received an email with the subject line "Welcome to TeacherEase." The message included in that email was not completely up to date. We would like to clarify that TeacherEase will be used this year as our primary platform for recording assignment and assessment scores in all of your child's classes. Last spring, we piloted TeacherEase with over 50 District 109 middle school teachers who unanimously agreed that TeacherEase improved communication with students and families about student progress and performance.
Please take a moment to view this TeacherEase Parent Guide to help you access your child's most recent assignment and assessment data.

1st/FINAL Posting - Prudential Spirit of Community Award
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program is the United States’ largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service.
Created in 1995 by Prudential and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the program honors middle level and high school students for outstanding service to others at the local, state and national level.
Thus far, it has recognized more than 120,000 young people who’ve made a difference – and inspired countless others to consider how they might contribute to their communities.
For more information on how your child can apply, visit the program page here.
2nd/FINAL Posting - Open House
Open house is scheduled for Thursday, September 7th. Your child will bring home your class schedule Tuesday or Wednesday evening, September 5th or 6th. With a few exceptions for special education classes, the evening will run from 7-9pm. As you come in for the evening, please take a goodie bag from Community-the Anti-Drug with valuable information for parents.
We look forward to seeing you on the 7th; don’t be tardy to your first class!
