Welcome Back!

It was a great start to the new school year. We felt the energy and excitement having the students back in classrooms and chatter in the hallways. We have a few reminders for our students:

  • Wear a mask. Make sure it covers your nose and mouth at all times indoors.
  • Social distance when possible.
  • Bring a water bottle.
  • Review the new dress code.

Don't Feel Well?

Let's work together to help stop the spread of COVID-19. If you are experience COVID-19 symptoms or are awaiting test results, please stay home.

Attendance Procedures

OFF CAMPUS PASSES (Early Release)

Student safety is a major concern for us. Students must be signed out at the attendance desk before departing early. Students are not allowed to wait in front of the school to be picked up during school hours.

If your student needs to leave early from school, please send a note with your student. Notes should be given to the Attendance secretary, NOT your student's teacher, before school. Calling the school in advance, or sending a note, will prevent delays for you (such as trying to get your student while they are running cross-country) and will help us to minimize interruptions to the classrooms. If you forgot to send a note you may call the Attendance Hotline at (858) 538-5692 to have an off campus pass sent to your student.

When calling the hotline, or writing a note, please indicate the following information:

  • Your student's first and last name
  • Their grade
  • The time your student needs to leave school
  • Whether or not your student will return that day

Please meet your child at the attendance desk to be signed out at the time of departure. Be prepared to show your identification when checking out your child.

If your student returns to school after being picked up early, please have him/her check back in at the Attendance desk before heading to class.

CLEARING ABSENCES

If your student is absent, a parent or legal guardian must call the Attendance Hotline as soon as possible each day your student is absent (unless you give us a date range for multiple days).

In the message, please state the following information:

  • Your student’s first and last name
  • Their grade
  • The date of the absence(s)
  • The reason (if sick, please list symptoms)
  • Your relationship to the student
  • A phone number where you can be reached.

Students will be listed as truant if we do not receive a call or note from a parent/guardian.

Thank You PTSA

We would like to thank our PTSA families for the generous welcome back breakfast and a lounge full of delicious snacks. The teachers and staff enjoyed it and felt appreciated.

Mesa Verde Foundation

Next week our Mesa Verde Foundation Pledge Drive will kick off! Money raised through the pledge drive funds many essentials at Mesa Verde including art, science, and classroom supplies, library improvements, and much more. Watch for more information to come, and thank you in advance for your participation with this crucial fundraising effort. Mesa Verde students and their teachers appreciate you!

Get Involved

Would you like to be a volunteer at Mesa Verde? Our volunteers at Mesa Verde are an integral part of school. Our volunteers help with events throughout the school year including 6th grade Olympics, 7th grade History Faire, 8th Grade Constitutional Challenge and Promotion. Although we are currently limiting our volunteers at this time due to the pandemic, we are preparing for when we do need volunteers. Under the new guidelines, volunteers must be fully-vaccinated and show proof of vaccination. If you would like more information, please contact Amanda Lane at (858) 538-5478 or alane@powayusd.com.

Sign up here if you would like to hear more.

Library Volunteers

The Mesa Verde library is looking for volunteers to help in the library during the lunch periods (Mon/Tues/Thur/Fri 11:00 to 12:40 and Wednesdays 11:40 to 1:00) once we are permitted to have volunteers again. We need help assisting and supervising students during our busy lunch periods. Volunteers may choose which day of the week and how often you would like to come in (once a week, every other week, once a month, etc.) If you are interested please contact Heather Ryan: hryan@powayusd.com. We will collect this information now to have it in preparation for when volunteers are allowed.

If you are not sure if you are an approved volunteer, contact Amanda Lane at alane@powayusd.com.
