The Cardinal Letter
Fall Edition 2018
Greetings from Principal Goodman
Dear Parents and Students,
I’m happy to report that we are off to a smooth start at Chippewa Falls High School. The students are back in the swing of routine. Most students are participating in their fall athletic season, practicing for marching band competitions, and preparing for Homecoming 2018! There is excitement in the air as we gather together in friendship and as we focus on learning. Chippewa Falls High School is a great place for students to belong.
Being new to the building, I have been impressed with our students. They are respectful to adults and peers alike, they are engaged in classroom learning, and they are being “present” with one another. Our senior speaker challenged the student body to put down their phones and talk to each other. Students are taking the challenge, and it’s making a difference.
This school year, we are focusing on improving processes, and in turn, this will naturally improve our outcomes in student learning, our building operations, and service excellence to our students and parents. With making improvements, there will be an adjustment time for everyone. With shorter lunch periods this year, I’m happy to report that we serve and seat 750 students per lunch period within 10 minutes, allowing all students a minimum of 20 minutes to eat. The students are utilizing the multi-purpose room for additional lunch seating as well as the courtyard during good weather. The kitchen staff and custodians have been working very hard to prepare, serve, and clean up our additional areas.
Another change that students requested was moving Prime Time to the end of the day. This allows students, who need to leave early to attend athletic events, not to miss instructional time. We have designed Prime Time for students to be able to schedule time with their teachers when they need additional pre-teaching, re-teaching, supported study groups, enrichment opportunities, or time to retake tests. If students simply need a quiet place for independent study, we have designated areas for larger study halls in our cafeteria and library. Our goal is to put supports in place to assist our students and promote academic growth.
We look forward to continue serving our people and empowering and challenging our students throughout this school year. I look forward to a great school year.
Respectfully yours,
Donna Goodman
Chippewa Falls High School Principal
