From The Assistant Director
Dear CDS Community,
Every year our Houses face off against one another on consecutive Fridays in an event known as “Houselympics.” Last week, the competitions got underway, and so did the fun. Students played competitive jenga, musical chairs, dodgeball, and other games. It was great to see so many smiling faces on a Friday afternoon! A huge thank you to Ms. Maguire for coordinating this and many other experiences that help to develop the culture of our school!
On Wednesday, our students competed in the annual Korean Writing Competition. Ms. Aum is working hard to determine the winners, which will be a challenge due to the talented field of competitors. On Thursday, the student council and I had our first student discussion forum on health and wellness. It was great to hear everyone’s concerns and ideas on this topic, and I look forward to next week, when our librarian will join us for a discussion of ways we can improve the student experience in the library.
Throughout the week, coaches held tryouts for the boys’ and girls’ varsity soccer and badminton teams. Collectively, there were more students trying out for the coming season than ever before! It is great seeing our students pushing themselves and experiencing the value of our athletics program. Though not all students will make the team, it shows a lot of character to put yourself out there and to try your best. Swimming tryouts will be held on Monday and Wednesday next week after school.
That is all for now! Have a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to seeing you next week!
All the best,
Jason Musselman

Hard Work Pays Off
Dear Phoenix Fans!!
The high school basketball season is now complete. Unfortunately, the season was cut short by all KAIAC schools in order to do our part in helping to prevent the possible spread of the Coronavirus.
With that said, the season wasn't a total loss. Both of our boys and girls team finished the season as KAIAC White Conference Basketball Champions!!! The boys team went a perfect 8-0 on the season and the girls team finished the season 7-1. We are very proud of all of the athletes on both teams and we are looking forward to the season next year already!
Now that the basketball season is over, try-outs for badminton and soccer teams have been taking place this week and swim team try-outs will be starting next week on Monday.
We are looking forward to successful seasons for all of these teams as well to finish off the school year. Be sure to come on out and support our teams. You can see the team schedules on the athletic website!
Gooooo Phoenix!!

Musical Preparations
This week the 9th grade music students prepared their auditions for the musical that will be performed in term five for the CDS first program. The students will be performing an adaptation of the Hans Christian Anderson story, The Little Mermaid. Students will receive their roles next week and then begin rehearsals right away.
The 11th/12th grade music students have just started their contemporary song writing unit. This term the students will be creating original songs. Maybe you'll hear their song on the radio one day!
