What We are Learning
Reading: We are focusing identifying the main idea of a multi-paragraph text. We are also focusing on our RAPS strategy (Restate, Answer, Prove it, and Summarize) as we practice written comprehension.
RI.2.2 - Identify the main topic of a multi-paragraph text as well as the focus of specific paragraphs within the text.
Writing: We are working on an opinion writing unit. Students are learning how to state an opinion and back it up with reasons that support their claim. We are currently writing about our favorite foods.
W.2.1 Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, uselinking words (e.g.,because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.
Fundations: We will finish Unit 10 on Wednesday. We are focusing on double vowel syllables.
- RF.2.3 Know and apply grade -level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding.
- RF.2.3. Decode words with common prefixes and suffixes.
- RF.2.3. Distinguish long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one syllable words.
Math: We are focusing on partitioning circles and squares into halves, thirds, and fourths.
2.G.A.3 Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.
Science: We will continue Dr. Bob's Sound School next week. The kids are really enjoying the curriculum!
