Get ready for a new year of Community Read events
If the lineup for the first half of 2016 is any indication, this will be a big year for the Calloway County Public Library's Community Read patrons. And early birds can even get a head start a few days before ringing in the new year.
Starting Dec. 28, library patrons can register for January's Community Read Event and pick up copies of the featured book: "Forty Acres and No Mule" by Janice Holt Giles.
It is the first Community Read event of 2016. In addition to the book by Giles, who died in 1979, the Community Read program by April will bring to Murray authors Sharon Draper and Bill Cunningham, the Kentucky Supreme Court justice.

If you haven't renewed yet, deadline for dues is Dec. 31
That's the deadline for anyone who joined before September 2014 and has not yet paid the $10 annual membership fee should turn that in at the Calloway County Public Library front desk.
Each member must pay dues in September after being a part of the group for at least a year, and the grace period for paying renewal dues extends through December of each year before membership is cancelled.
Also, any Friends members looking to get more involved in the organization, please contact membership chairperson Debbie Drane at debbiedrane6249@gmail.com to join the membership committee and help recruit members and retain them for the important work of the Friends of the Library.
