Meet Author Mélina Mangal ~ Saturday, March 20, 10:30 AM
Mélina Mangal's earliest memories begin near the shores of Lake Superior, climbing trees, collecting rocks, and listening to birds. She loves writing about nature and its place in young people’s lives. Stories from faraway times and places have always captured her imagination as well. She likes to imagine what life was like as she walks along the river, or visits an historical site. Mélina works as an elementary school librarian, introducing students to great books, the exciting research process, and new technology.

Help Kwame Alexander Write a Poem
The Civil Rights Memorial Center is partnering with bestselling author Kwame Alexander and the community to produce ‘A Community Poem,’ a new exhibit that will be featured inside the museum when it reopens later this year.
Members of the community are invited to submit an original poem around the themes of racial justice and human rights. Alexander will select lines from multiple submissions and combine them into one single community poem. The final poem, representing the combined work of multiple contributors across the United States, will be displayed on a digital screen in the final gallery of the Civil Rights Memorial Center.
The deadline to submit is March 10. Click Community Poem for more details and watch the video to hear from Kwame Alexander.
National Magazine Seeks Girl Reporters
How to Become a Reporter for New Moon Girls
Girl Reporters are crucial to our magazine. They volunteer for story assignments for future issues of the magazine. They can also pitch articles based on their personal interests and passions.
For example, in our upcoming Spring issue, Solange researched and wrote the Women's Work article about Vice President Kamala Harris. And in our last issue, Gemma wrote about unsustainable "fast fashion" and its devastating impact on workers and our earth.
Girls can apply at New Moon Application. When [you] apply with parent/guardian permission, [you'll] become part of Luna’s Team and get email alerts with writing opportunities.
