Royal High School would like to invite you to a new and unique involvement opportunity for parents/guardians. On Monday, February 11th we will be holding an interactive workshop for families. We invite you to get involved.


Here, you will not only learn about the progress of Royal, our WASC goals, and our achievement data - but you will also be actively engaged in guiding the growth process of our award-winning school. Through this 90 minute-long workshop you will collaborate with other parents and RHS administration to provide insight, ideas, and genuine feedback for stronger student connections, classroom engagement, and student access to rigorous academic experiences.


Because of the work you will take part in, you must be registered to attend. Please submit your information below to reserve your spot. Space is limited to 80 participants. (If there is interest by more parents, we will hold an additional workshop.)

ID REQUIRED - ALL STUDENTS & PARENTS ON CAMPUS

Please remember that, per school and district policy, I.D. must be carried on campus. Students should always have their school I.D. card available on campus and at school sponsored off-campus functions, and parents visiting our campus should carry their drivers license or state I.D. card. If you have lost your school ID card you will need to get a new one at the school library.

IB INFORMATION NIGHT

Royal High School will be holding an information night to help families understand what the International Baccalaureate (IB) program is all about. This will include what it means to be an IB Diploma student, understanding its rigorous curriculum, how colleges perceive students in the IB program, and how it compares to the Advanced Placement (AP) program.

AP EXAM REGISTRATION

Royal High School would like that all students take AP exams for the AP classes in which they are enrolled. For the 2019 AP exams, students at Royal High School will be registering online. This year each AP exam costs $94.00.


Online Exam registration will begin on Wed, Jan 30, 2019 at 4:00 AM and end on Mon, Mar 4, 2019 at 11:59 PM. In order to register, students should click on the link provide on the school website or visit www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/053379 to register.

  • Sat, Feb 16, 2019 at 11:59 PM - Registrations and payments after this date will incur a $20 late fee per exam.

NAEP TESTING

Some of our seniors were randomly selected by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) to take an assessment in mathematics, reading, or science on Wednesday, February 20th.


NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. For more details about NAEP testing click HERE for parent letter and links to their website.


SENIOR INFORMATION NIGHT (for current juniors)

Our counselors will be holding an information night to get our current juniors ready for their senior year. This will include information about class registration for 2019-2020, timeline of steps to prepare for applying to college, SAT/ACT plans, and many other senior year events. This is an important night to attend for all junior parents and students.


PSAT 9 and 10

On Tuesday, February 26th we will use part of the school day to test 100 of our freshmen and all of our sophomores with the Preliminary SAT (PSAT 9 and 10). The PSAT can serve several purposes. It is a practice test to the SAT, provides the school with data to help students determine Advanced Placement (AP) readiness, and it can help students determine career interests.


The window for 9th grade students to register for the PSAT is open until January 30th, or until the first 100 students register. The Google Form will be time stamped as they are completed. Students who would like to sign up should follow the steps below.


  1. Click and complete this Google Form.
  2. Once sign-ups are closed a staff member will reach out and place the student on a wait list.
  3. Royal HS will be fronting the costs of the exams for the students who register. There are 100 exams available.



AERIES PORTAL

Logging in and monitoring your student's grades can all be done from the Aeries portal. The importance of this cannot be communicated enough. Parents and students will be able to better partner with the teachers by monitoring students' grades, attendance, and other important information within Aeries.

ADULT SPORTS PASSES AVAILABLE

New adult sports passes are here. This punch card (20 punches) can be used for entry to any of our home sporting event (not including CIF playoffs). WORK EXPERIENCE

GET PAID & EARN ELECTIVE CREDITS

Students with qualifying jobs can join WEE (Work Experience Education) and earn practical arts or elective credits. This class combines on-the-job training with one hour a week of classroom instruction. Classes are semester or year long.


INTERNSHIP CLASSES

Internships can be used as a valuable tool, to gain job experience, strengthen resumes, and receive elective credits. Each semester Royal High School coordinates with community businesses offering student internships.


  • Simi Valley Veterinary Hospitals and Clinics
  • Internships through Chamber of Commerce & the Youth Employment Service
  • Teacher Assistant (on campus) and Teachers of Tomorrow (off campus)


If you are interning at a local business, check-in with Mrs. Longo in the Work Experience office 2-11. Your non-paid internship combined with weekly class instruction, may qualify for elective credits.

A variety of opportunities to participate in garden projects, farm projects, skills development projects in woodworking, masonry, mechanical equipment, agriculture, administrative tasks, social media management, etc. and community projects such as the Free Farmers Market, the @SocialFeed hunger project, the Worm Farm etc. Volunteers of all ages accepted, please complete the Participation Form found here. DETAILS: Ursinus is located in Collegeville, about 40 minutes west of Philadelphia, and 10 miles from the green, rolling hills of Valley Forge National Park. Buildings on the 170-acre campus are mostly constructed of Pennsylvania fieldstone; many have had their interiors upgraded and their exteriors preserved and restored. Actors and dancers benefit from rehearsal and exhibition space in the Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Center.


General education requirements at Ursinus fall under the college’s Plan for Liberal Studies, and they are grounded in the assumption that while individuals have intrinsic value, they also live in a community. Therefore, the core includes two semesters of the Common Intellectual Experience—a course that explores topics from Plato to Buddhist scripture to Nietzsche—as well as requirements in science, culture, and history. Students also engage in at least one Independent Learning Experience—a research project, an internship, study abroad, or student teaching—before graduation, and they must complete a capstone course in their major. For honors students, the requirements are more stringent; their independent projects are evaluated by outside examiners.


Students choose among nearly 30 majors, with the most popular being business and economics, biology, psychology, and media and communication studies. The college also offers strong programs in neuroscience, health and exercise physiology, and politics and international relations. The academic climate is largely dependent on the course of study. “Most people are very focused on their academics, which does create a competitive environment,” says a senior. “However, a lot of people are keen on working together and collaborating both in and outside of the classroom.” A biology major says, “The professors want their students to succeed and really aid in the growth of the students.” Classes are small—75 percent have fewer than 20 students—and students say they are pleased with the quality of teaching, especially since there are no TAs. “The relationships I have with my professors are more personal than I could have ever expected coming into college,” says a junior.
