January Newsletter South Elementary 2021-22

Message from the Principal

Dear Families of South Elementary Mustangs,

Happy New Year! We are so glad to be back in school and we will do whatever is possible to maintain in-person learning as we start out the new calendar year. So far, we have been able to maintain enough staff members, even with COVID and other illnesses and absences, to safely and adequately supervise students and provide quality in-person instruction this year. We hope to be able to continue to maintain this learning environment for students. We believe this to be the very best learning environment for students. Please do your part in keeping your child home from school if they have symptoms and we also encourage you to get your child tested for COVID as soon as possible if symptoms arise, so they are fully aware of when they will be able to return to school based on test results.

We have been experiencing very high numbers of student absences since our return to school last week, most of which are not due to COVID symptoms or other illnesses. Please prioritize your students’ attendance, as it is critical that they are not absent unless they are sick. We provide instruction that is truly so valuable each and every day in school. We provided intentionally targeted intervention to address gaps in students’ skills as well as whole group learning experiences that move students toward grade level proficiency every day. Student absences, especially extended absences, create significant gaps in learning that prevent students from being able to grow and learn successfully. Please prioritize attendance and be clear in your communication with your child about the importance of regular attendance at school from the start of the school year through to the end of the school year. We are halfway through the school year and want all students to be fully prepared to move onto the next grade level at the end of this school year.

Thank you for your help and support in the individual learning and growth of your child(ren) as our partners in their education.

Most sincerely,

Mrs. Puzio

Principal, South Elementary

Atentamente,

Sra. Kristen Puzio

Directora, Primaria South
